Calzaghe to fight at Super Middleweight??

After reading the above mentioned article - who springs to mind??

Carl Froch perhaps??

It's strange. Joe does seem to want Hopkins, but it looks like it's on the backburner. He doesn't seem to fancy Woods, seeing him as a fighter not really appealing to a wider audience.

Another notch on his title belt, after making so many defenses, looks ok. Wright wouldn't be so bad an opponent, but Winky is no super middleweight.

If Joe stayed at 168, surely he'd have to face someone in the rankings. But then again Brahmer may be going to jail, Froch will probably face Inkin, etc etc.

I suppose it doesn't really matter too much. Joe has dominated 1 champion (Lacy) and come through a few problems vs another champ (Kessler).

Hopefully we get a good, tasty fight regardless.

Winky Wright is a good call as well.

But there again someone has said to me Jermain Taylor - don't see the value in that one.

Calzaghe would and that is why he wants the fight.

Wright would be the best available opponent for Joe, since Jones is already fighting and Hopkins is afraid of him. If he fought Woods, it wouldn't help his legacy, but a win over Wright would gain him more recognition and respect from Americans. His last two opponents should be Wright and Jones.

Calzaghe wants big bucks and American, Winky, Hopkins, Roy Jones someone like that... Froch has no chance of Joe fighting him, neither Woods... Joe will fight a big named American

Its all about what you can bring to the table against a yank man woods don't bring a lot vis a vis respectability however Wright does. Someone also suggested an easyer fight in america first would mean that he could suss out the legistics of upping and moving to the USA and set up a base there.

I think thats the best one out there aswell in terms of Joe the business and Joe the Legacy. If he wants to stay busy then he could take on hopkins in June and then a home comming against Woods or Froch in Novembre :-D I so wish it was that simple

Does Winky really bring Big Bucks? He was never a huge draw, but his wins over Mosley elevated him somewhat. I hope to god his showing against the 800 year old Hopkins has taken him back down again. I have no interest in Calzaghe-Wright. 170 was too big for Winky, and I really fail to see how 168 is going to be any better, especially as, at this moment in time I consider Calzaghe a much tougher ask than Bernard.

But anyone wanting to get their hopes up about Calzaghe staying at 168 to face Froch would simply be deluding themselves. If Joe is staying at super-middle, it's to face the winner of Pavlik-Taylor II.

If joe fights again at SMW its someone america has heard of your right. I could see Wright happening it'd line up hopkins probably better than any other fight.

Winky gets all the respect in the world from me but no way do I want to see him fight Calzaghe. Joe has maybe one or two fights left and i'm not sure A. Wright brings in that much money. B. It would probably be even worse to watch than Hopkins. C. Fighting someone who has just been beaten by Hopkins and hasn't won a meaningful fight for quite a while now would add all that much to his legacy.

Pavlik or Taylor if its to be at 168.

winky put up a decent fight against hopkins.

only lost 8-4 on my card.

i agree hopkins is the big fight out there for calzaghe.

I'm not begrudging Old Joe a veteran moneymaking match up.

But Winky could still make 154, and should, and he looked flabby and ponderous at 170 versus a guy who pot-shots. How is Joe going to make him look?

It would be a poor contest to my mind. I'd prefer Tarver or Jones, they're no less shot but style, weight and challenge wise I think they're better telly, better box office and more competitive.

Winky should be looking for Forrest, Mayorga and other names around 154 or hoping Pavlik may stay at 160 and get the fight with him.

It'll be a rematch with either Sakio Bika or Peter Manfredo, or a 3rd fight with Mario Veit or Fr ank Warren's masterplan: CW domination, where Joe jumps up & takes on th legendary Bobby Gunn.

Might be a good idea to go to America, fight a Winky, Allan Green or Miranda, raise his profile to have better bargaining for Hopkins.

But I dont think it happens when they can have a big audience at home. It certainly wouldn't be a PPV. If they want a PPV fight, they need Hopkins a bit more than they let on.

I suppose it's wait and see time. Given that Joe is 36, that is a bit annoying. Will be good to see him in action again soon, though, if it's fairly early next year.

I really though they would be moving up.

Joes last year needs 2-3 fights.

He can't afford to wait until May-June to get started. He needs to be out in March-April, which means he needs to be signed up this side of xmas.

Anyone else think this might be a horrible fight to watch?

Bute is the fight I would like to see if its to be a Super Middleweight fight. Well, Bernard could probably make Super Middle pretty comfortably.

how about bring Glen Johnson down to super middle?

Johnson has really been messed about by Calzaghe in the past, but I think his fight with Reggie Johnson just fell through.
