What if Mayweather-Hatton nearly happened in 2004

This fight nearly happened in 2004 at the MEN before the Tyszu fight but Team Hatton didn't think the time was right and Mayweather fought Corley instead.

If it did it would have been reffed by Micky Van, Ricky would get away with rough house tactics so the fight would have played out a little differently. Obviously neither fighter would have earned nearly what they earned last night and it would only be 2 140lb contenders instead of number 1 and 6 P4P squaring off.

In my opinion both fighters are past their primes and it would have been a far better fight in 2004. Mayweather looked SLOW to me last night and has lost a great deal of his blistering hand speed he had at 130-140. Hatton lacked the jab and head movement he had against Tackie and didn't have the same stamina he had back then.

I still think Mayweather wins but we would get a far better display than the hugging slower fighters we saw last night.

I think Hatton would jab his way in a little more, get his shots off that bit quicker and slicker, be that little more agile and less musclebound so he can move laterally more inside to get bodyshots off. I think it may have been closer than it was last night.

don't think Mayweather slow. he's just more flat footed, more economical than he used to be. i've noticed this since after the gatti fight.
