If Khan Doesn't Tighten Up His Defence/Stance, He Will Get K

Amir Khan will get KO one day if he doesn't tighten up on his intitial stance and defence generally.
Earl was trying to do what Willie Limond did and had initial success sending Khan backwards when hit on the chest. Its stupid allowing yourself to be wacked on the chest because even though it was not on a full square on angle it was about to have the smae effect (going down).
Khan is still developing physically, I think he needs to work on his body and his legs more with regards to muscle, if he doesn't then he won't develop quickly enough on a natuaral basis to save him.
He's on borrowed time with his current stance/defence, either work on it or be remembered as the flash in pan.

i have to agree with you, how much proof do you need? Khan stopped the guy in 70 seconds, one hit to the chest does not mean he is going to get KOed. khan is going to be a great fighter, the only person who is going to beat him is himself (like naseem hamed)

I'm not anti Khan, I like him and want him to do well but I don't want to see him get KO, lose his confidence all cause he was so lax with his defence.
If Willie Limond can get cloe to knocking him out who didn't have a high KO record then Khan's gotta be on dodgy ground their but I sure hope he over comes it.

I think Khan has some problems and hope they are worked on in training but to state your case as starkly as that is just stupid. You may claim he'll get KOed but demonstrably to the level he is at he has not been.
I think he can learn a lot of things and part of that is tightening up his defence and showing more composer when opening up on opponents, I think that certain styles of fighters (ie slick counter punchers with good chins) could exploit that, but they would have to be fornicating good boxers of that type.

give the kid a chance, he's just turned 21 and should still be in the amas.
He does need tightening up, and should keep his chin lower. But look at his handspeed and lateral movement - very impressive. You can only improve 1 step at a time. Where he was tight vs Limond, he was poised vs Earl. The KO came naturally so it was a good night for Amir.

Khan is what he is: an offensive risk-taking FIGHTER with tremendous athleticism.
I don't think his skills are particularly great, but his speed is. He has basic punching skills, and basic defensive skills. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not great either.
All of the BEST fighters tend to have near natural counter punching skills. He doesn't have that.

He seems to have that natural, instinctive fast-handed quality that Calzaghe had as a young pro...Technically quite incorrect, but very talented.

I don't think Calzaghe is technically incorrect.
Khan is more akin to Manny Pacquaio, albeit not as crazy.
Roy Jones on the other hand, he had speed but he also looked stylish. Khan doesn't look stylish to me.

I think it's important to bear in mind that Amir Khan has only just turned 21. His technique 21, for a 21 year old, seems pretty good to me; though I'm by no means a boxing expert.

All that matters in boxing is experience. Age isn't everything.
When would you ever see or hear Khan go into a fight preparing with tactics such as the "check left hook"?
Never. Those techniques and tactics are foreign to him

Khan seems to be able to get away with certain things because of his raw talent. At higher levels that's something that fighters from Aaron Pryor and Michael Spinks, to Jones Jr and Calzaghe have done.
Joe has been quite unorthodox through portions of his career.

I bet no fighter, schooled in Britains gym's has'nt been taught how to throw a "check left hook" for over 50 years.

I'd say the seventies was probably the last decade that Britain produced technical stylists that knew all the tricks inside and out.
Even the fighters that weren't that talented then generally were very schooled.
There are exceptions of course, but most of the better Brits since have been more notable for punching power, pressure or awkward athleticism like Hamed, Graham, Witter etc.

Josh, the whole point of this debate is that us he-will-come-a-cropper-unless-he-develops-his-defence brigade DO believe he will be getting towards the top of his sport because of the massive gifts he has.
Getting the shot is good, winning the shot is great... we've (Britain) have had lots of such fighters over the last 10/15 years who've "got there".
Anyone care to name the last three British fighters to won 5+ WBA/WBC/IBF world title fights?
That should be his ambition, and HE should be thinking what fighters who have achieved that had in their locker.

I'm really not denying that indeed I think that and think it should be his aim (it was lennox Lewis) however I think that people who are unnecessarly adversarial undermine there own points!
