Boxing and promoters

Boxing in Australia is in great shape due to a number of promoters who continually promote fights, take massive financial gambles, give fighters an opportunity to not only earn some money from the sport they love but to keep us fight fans entertained with Australian fighters as much as possible. If it wasn't for these promoters, we'd be watching a load of US and British fighters run around every Friday on cable. My hat goes off to the promoters nationwide for their support of the game, for the knockers out there who want to bag titles and fighters etc., get over it, it's about the opportunities given to the boxers, we've lost far too many promoters in the past few years lets not lose any more, I care not for the titles on offer but for the fighters who step into that arena for a few needed hundred bucks on a regular basis!

As long as we get to see decent and competitive bouts, not like some of the miss-match crud that is regularly dished up on Mundine's undercards for example.

Good point however a mismatch is a mismatch is a mismatch. The way to put bums on seats is via a contest. I would rather see the 144th rated super middleweight fight someone within 20 positions above him than to step in with a top contender.
It would be cheaper and a better contest.
I refuse to watch or go to MOST fightnights because I look at the match ups.
I want to set a task for you. Look at an upcoming hyder card and tell me if you can't pick all the winners.

It's not overly difficult to predict winners in most boxing contests which is why there's a red and blue corner, we can only expect an upset at the very least in most cases. Boxing in many weight divisions in this country is very thin on the ground therefore its not that easy to have a truly equal bouts, but remember boxers have to box, no matter sometimes how one sided it may seem a fight is important to the participants for many reasons, a chance to cause an upset, a chance to earn a dollar, an opportunity for exposure on national tv, multiple reasons. In defence of all promoters and I'm sure they would agree, there is a large number of fighters out there who just won't take fights with other boxers who are their equal or better therfore they stymie the ranks and then everyone wants to blame the promoters. As for hyder, he's done more to promote boxing in this country than most over the past few years, di carlo is another good contributor, in fact theres probably 6 good promoters we have to thank for keeping this sport in the public eye.

So you can pick the winner of Geale and Dawson?

I can understand the thrust of this thread and no I cannot pick the winner of geale / dawson. A great fight and a great matchup.
I'm just saying that, for the most part our fighters are not tested.
Dare I say Geale Dawson is an exception?

Yeh i think your right grant.. Even though that Dawson bloke kicks people for a living i still have the utmost respect for his fighting abilities because Anton Aolopov was no slouch and he made very short work of him, due mostly to a good game plan..
If Dawson beats Geale he should be getting the limelight for his abilities so that aussie boxing can reclaim a bit of the credibility that Hopoate, Big Les and Hundreds of mismatches lost for it

Daniel Baff v Kane Mckay on the Mundine card was a top fight. All of us could go through the current boxrec Aussie ratings and come up with many such possibilities. Sadly they dont often happen. Im not concerned about 4 rounders where guys learn their trade but in almost every weight division in Oz there are good fights to be had. Unfortunately the Chad Bennett mentality is way too prevalent.Good on Tommy Browne &Willie Kickett, Geale & Dawson. Let there be more of it.

Yes I agree there are many good fights to be had in many divisions, unfortunately there are still some fighters who want to duck and dive from facing their equals, leaving promoters the unenviable task and dilemma of matchmaking the best fighters available, those that want to fight need to fight and in some cases that fight makes a difference to them in other ways. The Geale/Dawson card is a pretty reasonable card and should make for good night's viewing both live and on TV.

Sounds like Angelo doesn't it. Maybe Brad Vocale can log on as "SECONDER" and tell us about all the "beautiful rips to the body" we can look forward to when Local Hero meets Manila Folder on the next Big Time Boxing Show from Fox.

Although shock horror, there are actually a couple of decent matchups on the tube this weekend.
