It has been reported that a new film is to be produced by Morris Levy on the life and career of the legendary heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano.

Levy has been given material by Rocky's brother Lou, who is unhappy with two previous movies on Rocky, saying that they did not portray a true picture of Rocky.

Could be interesting.

Favreau is probably best known for his role alongside Vince Vaughn in Swingers (Which Favreau co-wrote), & other films they did together, but he's a very good actor with a lot of other quality credits to his name. He did a good job as Marciano in the 1999 telemovie, & the film itself was, I thought, quite impressive. The fight scenes alone were better than anything you'll see in a Rocky film.

I'm not sure if this is one of those Marciano films the Marciano family had a problem with or not, but I thought it was entertaining. Duane Davis was very good as Joe Louis, too.

Is this planned as another telemovie or as a bigger, theater production ala Will Smith's 2002 Ali film? I imagine the former.

It must be remembered that Marciano was only 185-190 pounds, and a doubtful 5'10" tall. He retired at 35. Russell Crowe would be too tall and Mel Gibson would be too old.

Most of his opponents were taller than him. Many outweighed him. If you pick a tall man to play him, it is going to be very difficult to cast opponents.

Good reasons to cast an unknown actor. Maybe have Bob Hoskins play his manager.

I'll tell you what would be an interesting Marciano film, is if they took a completely different route altogether and made a film of Marciano after his ring career, with some flash backs of his glory days in the ring, and have the film go into how he failed in business ventures and tried the comeback against Johansson and end the film with the whole Murray Woroner NCR computer tournament and superfight with Ali.

I think a film portraying Rocky as a guy who tried to be something once again, needing a challenge, a reason to live on and all his paranoia's about ending up financially busted like Joe Louis, as well as the 'hidden' double life he led outside his marriage would be a better film, as it would give more a human aspect to Marciano...rather than the 'invincible', 'legendary' approach that they done in previous films.

Didnt Faverau play Marciano in the 1998-99 flick about Marciano or is
this just a very old thread.

Yeah he did, the brothers Marciano just want to make a better film of their brother. I dont blame them, no offense to Faverau but I myself had a hard time watching that movie.
