I think ether Thaxton or an international standard Journeyman. I don't know how he looks in training and don't know how much I really learned from his last two fights other than that his power and speed are good.

I think within 4 fights he could realisticaly look to Romanov.

It depends there is a bit of a wonder weather if he gets a euro shot too soon he will not be able to take what are seemingly easier fights vs Journymen which are what he needs to do to learn for when he comes up against the likes of Diaz

I think Khan will be the next Alex Arthur... Looks promising, has a big head but gets a setback KO against a Michael Gomez type fighter and spends a couple of years trying to recover.

Its not a question of Khan being too good to fight journymen its about fighters who he'll learn something against just as I am sure Murray learned somethng against that Mexican the other day. If khan got one of those fighters from mexico or easten europe who he can go 12 rounds with and who stands up to his power he'll learn a bit more than he did in his last couple of fights.

i agree with Josh..

He just needs a little more experience at the moment against a wider variety of boxers

Casamayor looked shot to bits last time - Kastidis isn't all that either.

I'd give Khan a shout with either now. Kastidis is so easy to hit.

I agree that young fighters learn a decent amount vs journeyman. Especially if they are tough. I think Khan could do with a WBU title next year - deal with various tricky foreigners, the odd crude puncher here and there, some feather fisted guys with a good defense. Hardly a purist thing to say but

Thaxton, Romanov then move up and fight Rees is a probable route IMO.

I hope Murray gets Thaxton and that Khan gets Romanov. That would just be ESSENTIAL VIEWING.

To be honest I think Rees could be the fight with the least risk from those 3. If Khan went in that direction just to become a world champion and beat this record of Naz's that the Count keeps harping on about he could do it in his next fight. Although I think it would be harmful for Amir as he would need to face mandatories which could harm his development so soon.

Meager (decent dig, busy, good chin, still has ambition), winner of a Thaxton v Murray fight, Romanov then think again. Like Stu said there are guys considered to be some of the top fighters in the division who are quite beatable.

He could win the title at 140 and then vacate and move down surely?

Of course he could and ITV could go on about his record breaking achivements but the public would be demanding him fight the best, and unfortunately for them the public have all heard of Ricky Hatton. Not sure how patient people would be of him calling himself a world champion one minute and shooting back down to domestic class the next.

God I hate the thought of Gavin Rees being a world champion.

Are you fornicating kidding me WBU! I'd rather he went for EBU or WBC international than something they can all a world title and he will hang on to for bloody ever. In terms of the Hamed comparison he wone the WBO which was much less of a real belt back then than it is even now, and he won it from a guy with 9 losses on his record. I don't think Khan needs to be looking to compeet with that record (http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer)

Oh dear Josh, you'll be in trouble for disrespecting Robinson like that. The water on my desk is starting to shake, I think I can hear the Welsh coming for you

It's unlikely but if he wants the records that badly that's his easiest option as far as I can see.

- Robinson, considered just a journeyman, accepted the fight at 48 hours' notice after champion Ruben Dario Palacios, due to defend against Davison, failed an AIDS test.
- The WBO controversially sanctioned the contest for their vacant title and the rest, as they say, is history.

(from Boxrec) not the same league as Diaz I'm sure you will aggree! maybe he'll get a shot at the WBA wank belt but that would be similarly meaninless!

also I was 11 when the fight happened so if I have anything wrong about a fighter who went on to amass a stunning 32-17-2 record I appoligies!

I almost am kidding you.

I'd rather see him vs Thaxton, Romanov etc. But after that there are considerable things you can learn in those fights that - I admit - are effing horrible to watch.

Seeing Michael Gomez, Steve Foster, Enzo Maccarinelli, and many many more masquerading as world champs and beating on WBU imports actually turned me off the sport. Or at least made it very hard for me to warm to. I've obviously accepted it as part of the game and turned cynic, with it a "means to an end."

I think that carrer wise the WBU would ruin Khan, it'd prove to everyone who knows little about boxing that Khan is already the real thing and eveyone who knows about boxing that he is not the real thing. It'll be audley and the WBF all over again, there is nothing in its self wrong with Audley fighting people like richel Hersisia or Tomaz Bonin but calling them world title fights give people disspraportionatideas about there worth.
