Not normally a fan of boxing autobiographies but this one's an interesting read going from the De Leon snoozefest, through his sparring trips to Germany and his WBO fights. I forgot how many ups and downs his career has had and how many era's it's spanned. Worth a place in your Xmas stocking.

I was going to get the Dominic negus, out of the shadows book... has anyone read it, can anyone reccomend?

I agree.
I read it last week & thought the book gave some good insights. There were some interesting stories about his friendships and fall-outs with Naseem Hamed & Herol Graham.
He speaks highly of Brendan Ingle throughout and the Irishman receives plenty of praise for his training plans and psychological ploys.

But the overall thread is a feel good story that shows how a person with not much heart for a fight and little obvious ability (his words) can become a world champion.

Recommended.

I'm surprised, I thought a book like that would be a good cure for insomnia. Might pick it up at some point.

What is this about? Anything more than the documentary that was on BBC 2 a while back?

I respect what Nelson did but im glad the days where he bored us to death have gone, hated his fights, hated the division at the time..

Hes a good pundit though and seems one hell of a good chap

Autobiogrpahy... dunno, not read it.

Fortunately the book doesn't come with a DVD featuring full length fights with Carlos De Leon & Guillermo Jones.

I’ve read it. A lot of the time he talks about “when I filled in some pudendum on the door.” Although the stories about his time in boxing are fascinating – as is the book in general – there is too much about his wide-boy antics to make it a good boxing book.

Still worth a read, however.

Watched the 'highlights' when they were showed on the beeb on a saturday afternoon. The word dreadful springs to mind..

I bet the book would be good though - his WBF wilderness years in Aus and Brazil along with his sparring stories alone would hold my attention I imagine..

Due to reading this thread going to get both Negus and Nelson books.

Have to say though - still thought Maloney's book was a facinating read.

Nelson had ups and downs. He put on some defensive clinics as well in defense of his WBO title. He could be dull but he also could be a good fighter to watch from a pure boxing perspective.

Does the book cover his recent troubles that were in the papers last year, i.e. cheating on his wife, having exhibitonist sex at a hotel window etc etc.

It amazes me that there is still a market for the 'bouncer/fighter/plastic gangster' genre of book. It says a lot about the state of this country and the general 'dumbing down' culture, when people are sourcing their entertainment from reading about the life of Dominic Negus.

Although not a new book, i picked up Mick Duff's TWENTY AND OUT book 2nd hand the other week.
Very good read i thought, he did get a bit bitter towards Bruno and a couple of others, but otherwise he puts together some good tales of starting out in boxing promoting , and his run in with the local gangsters is a funny read.

yea it's a good read it's basically an apology for a lot of the things he has done in the past and how he's changed since meeting his girlfriend and becomming a dad id give it 7/10

I really enjoyed the Akiwandi fight it had its moments it entertained me.
