Hope I'm not repeating anything that's been posted already.
I think the opponent announcement is supposed to be next week, but maybe something has come out which has made this fight the most likely.

Very good fight. Presumably for the European title. Might mean Khan skips the Lonsdale altogether, though a fight with Thaxton for all three titles could still be done next year.

Sounds good to me - I'd have liked to have seen him in with Thaxton first though.

Boxrec schedules are sometimes put up in haste.

Would be very surprised if this was to be Khan's next fight, thought for sure they would go for Thaxton.

Romanov would start as a slight favorite for me and would really test Khan's abilities.

Nice one Kevin. Hopefully this fight will be made. Khan could do with the rounds I think Thaxton would give him.

You can look at this two ways:

1. He's fighting the European champion who can dig a bit. Very good.

2. He is fighting the bloke who lost two years ago to a man he just battered in 72 seconds. Very bad.

I think it's a good fight for him to take - old fashioned title and all that.

It just grated with me when he kept saying how he had beaten the best in Britain (Thaxton is champ and ranked no.1 challenger in Europe) - and no one on ITV picked him up on it.

Excellent interview, Jonno shows a lot of class, Amir and his team of writers could certainly learn something from that.

For the ITV Khan fans it may be a difficult sell, but we all know Earl fought the fight of his life that night and Romanov was coming off a long layoff (and I still felt he won the fight)

I just feel Jonno first will get him that British belt and would be an easier fight (although still in no way easy). Thaxton then Romanov is the route I would try and take him

I mentioned this a week or so ago.

ITV allowing Kahan to describe himself as #2 lightweight and Earl #1 devalued the coverage.

Jon Thaxton is the boss. And I'm staggered nobody had the guts to at least intervene and say

"Jon Thaxton the British champion may have thing or two to say about that".

Not asking much but come on ITV, fair play and all that.

Romanov is a good fight though.

If he wants to be the youngest champion garbage, then Romanov will get him closer to a shot than Thaxton.

Earl was No 1 before Khan beat him though, Thaxton beat Meager for the British title which Earl vacated for higher honours.

Didn't know Ring had Romanov and Khan #7 and #8 in the world at lightweight!

Always saw both as world class prospects - would be strange if they actually fought at this early stage given how well regarded both are.

Quick question or two here; does Yuri Romanov hold the European belt, and if this fight happens, will Amir Khan be able to fight him for it, along with the Commonwealth lightweight belt?

John Fewkes! They are stepping him up way too fast if this is true. I'd give Khan a chance against Romanov but I can't see Fewkes being ready.

Fair play to him though if it happens, he's being given one hell of a tough start to his pro career

Seems as though we're now just speaking hypothetically, but anyway Khan would be free to fight for the European title. Obviously Romanov isn't elligible for it though, so it would just be the EBU at stake. Khan would still be Commonwealth champion though, even if he lost to Romanov. But if it were two Brit fighters, then they can fight for both the comm and Euro title (and the British come to that) - a la Alex Arthur.

That was Earl in his prime!

It was Romanov at his worst!! Unfit, out of the ring for over a year! It was meant as a rehabilitation type fight to get him moving again... Didn't quite work out for him, lol.

I'd love to see him fight Khan!!!!!! What a scrap that would be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think SN will put Khan at such a risk though!!!

I'd love to see Khan vs Thaxton but on the evidence of Jono's struggle with Dave Stewart he'd have to perform a lot better.

It's just typical Warren hype to get you interested in a lesser fight.

So who do people on the forum expect Khan to fight in February? If he doesn't fight Thaxton then will the Board strip him, or will they allow him to make a voluntary?

I think it has to be Thaxton or Romanov. Anything else would be a step backwards, and another one round blow up is a waste of time as he won't learn anything from it. He needs rounds and if he doesn't get them soon he'll get to the point where he'll be in a twelve rounder and won't have the experience required to deal with a better opponent.
