Ron Lewis has completed his Top 100 British boxers list with Ted "Kid" Lewis punching his way to the top spot. Ron is going to revise the list sometime in the new year to take into account recent results (Haye) and oversights. If you haven't had a look already, you should follow the link and see what you think.

A lot of hard work has gone into this project. That said, whilst I know such countdowns are subjective in the extreme, I disagree with his ordering. There are also a good few fellows I'd have in the list who are absent.

These lists are hugely subjective and you could spend all day finding fault and reorganising to your own personal taste, but for me the major misgiving I have is seeing Jimmy Wilde as low as 9th. Surely his achievements warrant a much higher position?

Benny Lynch down at 23 seems harsh too.

Its a lot easier to criticise than it is to make a list like this but it makes for some good debate over the slow Christmas period

Theres a lot of bad choices, but i applaud anyone who sits down and compiles a top 100 list, a lot of fighters included seem to be of the last 15 years.

I can't see how anyone could put Calzaghe over Benn, personally. There's a huge gulf in the quality of opponents, and Calzaghe hasn't even tasted defeat, let alone SHATTERING one's, or been in a war anything like Benn's.

Jimmy Wilde ranked in 9th position??????

Nuff said.

Fair play though, making a list of the best 100 British Boxers is not easy to do.

Alex Arthur 38 places above Michael Brodie and 25 places above Carl Thompson!! The man who KO'd the current undisputed cruiser champ 25 places below the man who got starched by Michael Gomez and has yet to show he is anywhere near world class! I know lists like this are are difficult to compile, but, FFS, was this one sponsored by SN?

Calzaghe would need Ottke and a younger Jones and B-Hop on his record to top Lennox. And as for Enzo above Haye, that's ridiculous, as is the fact he's above Paul Ingle who won a more respected world title (IBF) from a world-class fighter (Medina) and successfully defended it at MSG against an American (Junior Jones).

Herol Graham at 34 is too low for my liking

It's a shit list and it looks to me as though the guy has been gap filling with some of those names.

Poor list I have to say, Calzaghe at 2!!!.... Herol at 34!!!... bah!...

Bruno's probably a bit high but he did come up against an unbeatable oppo in Tyson. It wasn't the same Tyson Lewis beat.
As for Lewis , I don't think he should be quite so high up getting sparked twice against oppos he was better than. But as I've expressed before heavies suffer more knockouts than most other weights so he's to be cut some slack here.
Hatton is too high full stop as he doesn't take risks. The exception being the other week and one would expect that due to the sheer cash bonanza. He simply couldn't "lose" as soon as the deal was signed.

Robin Reid at 46 or whatever is a sad statement about Brit boxing considering it's an all time great list - Paul Ingle had greater skill and will IMO and is ranked lower.

I am not picking it to bits as I didn't spend all that time collating it and am not knocking the editor.

I dont see how Calzaghe beats Lewis. Fighting 25 B level fighters than beating 1 or 2 good ones doesnt warrant such a high ranking, this list shouldve been top 25, maybe the guy making it wouldnt have been so desperate in filling spots, it seems he ran out and just out in random names.

Its all about personal preference really, but he has Pat Cowdell and Dave Charnley far too low.

THe only man who comfortably beat Charnley was Carlos Ortiz, and Cowdell was a former Olympic Bronze medallist (1976) I think and took Sanchez to a split verdict in Texas.

I would also have Conteh in the top 10, maybe just outside top six.

Hatton, Benn, Robin Reid and Clinton Woods too high.

Duke McKenzie and Terry Marsh too low.

No Don Cockell? My old man would be fuming ! Honeyghan's quite high in there, isn't he?

Benny Lynch so low, Buchanan below Benn, etc etc. However, that must be a termendous undertaking, so well done Ron Lewis.

ron lewis is obviously welsh. jimmy wildes position is laughable got to be top 5 at least.
henry cooper too high. goodness me i respect ron's effort but i think he must have got tired very early.
