he is still atleast 15lbs over weight but looks better than previous fights on the weigh in pics shown on fightnews.com
Weighed in at 247.5, was fighting at mid 250s previously.
Hopefully he is taking things a little more seriously now.

His condition is improving, no doubt, but what is it with modern day heavies and poor conditioning? Very few of them seem motivated to get into and stay in proper fighting shape.
Whilst not everyone can sport the generic fighter's physique, many of these guys just dont appear to work as hard as they should in the gym..

He could do to boil down a bit, but carrying a bit of fat won't do him any harm. Holmes was never mega lean, nor Ali for that matter.

That is true, its not a swinwear contest in there, just as long as their physique is a reflection of their gynetics and not a sign of too little time spent in the gym - more and more with modern heavies I am inclined to think its the latter..

You're right, of course. To be honest, I have all but given up with the heavyweight divison. Hopefully a good one will come along, maybe it will be Haye - I don't think it will be, he's not quite got enough. I saw a couple of Ali clips on the Parky show last night. The guy was a pure legend. Such a shame there will more than likely never be another boxer who can captivate the world like he did/does.

Solis won a 8 round decision. So still work to be done there. Still plenty of time though.

I Was expecting a stoppage here. Maybe Solis was a little slow and short to catch Long on the chin.
Another 10lbs off over the next few fights would be better.

Solis could realistically lose a lot more than 15lbs, I reckon he could possibly make Cruiser if he sorted out his diet. He could well be putting in the work in the gym but if your diet is shit you are not going to shed weight no matter how much training you do. 215-220 would be a decent weight for him at Heavy I think.

How are these Cubans putting on so much weight as pros?
Solis was only Heavyweight In the amatuers 3 years ago and Gamboa was a Flyweight now a Super feather.

Diet - and specifically, the availability of trashy Western food.
For the record, Solis looks very badly blown up - and for what you can get from a Secondsout.com broadcast, he seemed to be gassed by about halfway last night. Potentially, he is great, but he needs to be at top fitness to be so.

Used to be heavyweights trained down for speed, now they pack it on to be bulky because some moron told them it gives them strength. Too many heavyweights, especially North Americans, seem to train on pizza and burgers when they're not snorting coke. It's the influence of the gangsta culture of hip hop and bling. Not hard work. Then you have the muscle-bound roid users. I blame it on the shortage of good boxing trainers and the proliferation of conditioning/strength coaches who know nothing about the sport.
Then again, you've got a number of big men who refuse to follow instruction because they're head cases.
Thank godness for the Eastern Europeans!

Disappointed he went the distance i expected him to blast Long out in a couple of rounds. His weight will improve hopefully and so will the level of opposition.

I can see why a short guy like Solis would make hard work of a seven footer. But it seems he was disappointing. Get in shape, Solis. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call. Who needs another fat, lazy heavyweight?

Gamboa doesn't look like he has any fat on him though even as a Super Feather/Lightweight?

Our boys aren't exactly the epitome of athletic nutrition...

Even In shape, Solis will look as basic as he Is. He looked nothing much more than a puncher with a tight basic guard. He's fat but not that fat that would slow him down.
