Anyone catch this on Eurosport last night? I was surprised to see Gulyakevich totally outbox Kirakosyan to collect a landslide UD (and the European s-feath title to boot). It was an excellent performance from the man from Belarus.

He made full use of his height and reach advantages and, had he forced the pace on the front a little more instead of predominantly boxing of the back, he would have had Kirakosyan out of there. Carl Johanneson's conqueror was glad to hear the final bell and was starting to get nailed repeatedly, particularly by the uppercut.

I'd like to see Gulyakevich in with the winner of either Johanneson-Kevin Mitchell or how about the comebacking Scott Harrison later next year? After seeing Gulyakevich in action last night Alex Arthur coped very well with him, even though the technical decision ending was rather unsatisfactory.

I saw it, terrific showing from him and can't believe he only won it on an MD.

Lucky enough to see the geezer in Monte Carlo on Fight Academy shows twice and was impressed big time about him - however got to say he has a loss against Alex Arthur on his record - got stopped on a TD due to a headbutt or something like that.

Did anyone see that Arthur fight - how was Guly-whats his name doing??

Yeah, Guly cut Arthur I think and then Arthur got angry and was too strong I think.

It was stopped due to a cut on Guly though from an accidental butt.

from what i remember Gulyakevich did pretty well early on, but in typical arthur fashion, he was coming on strong at the time of the stoppage. still, would've liked to have seen what happened if the fight hadnt of been stopped. especially given the way the foster jnr fight turned out.

Gulyakevich started ok against Arthur but he got quite desperate when some of his full blooded shots were landing but having very little impact on Arthur who was wakening up after his usual lethargic start. Gulyakevich was dropped quite heavily although the ref ruled it a slip. Gulyakevich threw one of the most blatant headbutts ever incurring a 2 point deduction, Arthur retaliated with his own headbutt which caused the cut and was somehow ruled accidental. Arthur was well in control by this time and looked like he would go on to stop Gulyakevich in the next couple of rounds.

Thats how I remember it anyway.

I can't believe one judge had it as close as two rounds, as I had it 120-108 to Sergey Gulyakevich.

Thank you for the info on the Arthur/Guly' fight ... have to say before the fight I really thought the Eastern European had a chance- now he has captured the European Title you have to say its a good name for Arthur to have on his CV.

Proves that Arthur is the man in Europe but he hasn't used Euro level wins to take him to world class, like David Haye did.

Could well be. Watching him against Foster, I wondered what happened if Foster could punch like the simialrly styled Gomez.

Still, it's good to be able to beat on Euro level guys, but I'll never be convinced by his world class pretentions. Looks like a lot of the top super feathers are moving up - Soto is fighting WBC lightweight champ David Diaz, the Pac-Marquez II winner will probably go after the Soto-Diaz winner to make inraods at 135-lbs. Guzman keeps saying he wants to be a lightweight and he'll follow the big names.

I reckon Arthur wins a title belt and continues to boil his bones down to 130 until someone catches him clean.
