personally, I pick duran.

duran at his best cleans up all other lightweights in history

Duran would take them all. I would also throw Chavez in the mix.

Anyway here's how I see it:

Mayweather MD12 Whitaker

Mosley UD12 Mayweather

Duran KO10 Mayweather

Mosley UD12 Whitaker

Duran UD12 Mosley

Duran KO10 Whitaker

Duran and Whitaker in the final. Roberto by decision.

I'll be the odd man out then & say I don't see anyone beating Whitaker, & behind him, none of those fighters will stop Duran.

In the final, Whitaker has what it takes to handle Duran. Just look at his performance (at Welter, mind you) against Chavez. A very similar fighter to Duran (& some may argue a superior one, at that), Chavez is made to miss & swing unexpectedly wildly, snarling through his gumshield time & again. Nothing he tried worked in that fight. Whitaker slipped, ducked, weaved, parried & countered him to death. It wasn't the first time Sweet Pea was on the wrong end of a bad decision.

Personally, I don't see where exactly Duran takes Whitaker out. I expect him to be somewhat harder to hit cleanly than Chavez, & he will undoubtedly be putting on a little more pressure, but really, it's nothing dramatically different to what the great Chavez brings, & Whitaker did not have serious problems embarressing him.

However, Duran is the only one with a serious chance out of the fighters mentioned to beat Whitaker. Mosley's aggression which served him well would not be effective. Mayweather Jr. would do better in a chess match, but I don't see him having things his way either.

Whitaker by decision against all three combatants.

youre not thinking about the LIGHTWEIGHT divisional aspect of this thread enough.

Duran was quicker than Chavez and more explosive. His attacks were swifter than Julio's who was steadier in his aggression.

Whittaker can beat them all but I'd pick Duran to win a series between them 3-2.

Going back in history Gans, as has been stated, would be a real threat to the number 1 spot as would Leonard. We could also throw in Armstrong, Williams, Chavez and Canzoneri. Then there are non-title holders like Blackburn and Dave Holly who have great write ups and records.
