For the first time in about 20 years i didn't get given anything boxing related for Christmas, usually i'd get a book or DVD, but nothing for this one. Instead i got a wheelbarrow (its ok i'm not really odd, i have an allotment).

I got a boxing legends calender with photos of boxers.

Problem Is Khan's on It!

I got an Ali print, I forgot the artist, and an Ali book which I suspect Dirk read in the shtter before giving it to me as it had his companies leaflet half-way through.

I got the Johnny Nelson and Joe Calzaghe books, and the 3 Roy Jones dvd's; greatest knockouts, greatest power shots, and greatest counter punches. I expect they'll just be a cheap cash in and all have a lot of the same material in but still worth watching!

I got dinner of the champions DVD, Larry Holmes Joe Frazer, Muhammed Ali, Ken Norton and George Forman disgussing when they were good, not realy worth buying but woth a watch in terms of the history of the thing, not enough fight footage.

Ricky Hatton Life Story DVD, real obvious somebody would get me that. However i found an old christmas present on the 24th of dec .Frank Bruno autobiography which i hadnt seen for 2 years and ive almost finished hardly put it down!

The BBBC book 2008 and a 2 dvd set - 202 knockouts of which I had the first dvd already. The cover is a right con as the fights it depicts aren't on it (including Graham-Pazienza which wasn't even a knock out).

Oh and one of those glossy 'Story of Boxing' books by Mullan and Mee which I have at least 4 copies of with different covers.

And a triple 'Likely Lads' dvd. Which is off-topic but fantastic.

Charlie Magri Autobiography, just finished it last night.

Great read, honest account, one of the best boxing books I have read.

You can tell he lived to box, especially as an amatuer.

He seems a nice bloke, and I would recommend the book to all, particularly any former amatuer boxers as there is a lot in it you could relate to.

Just the Joe Calzaghe book for me.

Roberto Duran's biography Hands of Stone! let you know what I think of it in a week or two...

I got to meet him and get photographs of Duran at the WBHOF induction weekend when recieving Gilroy's awards, in fact Duran waved me over because of the mention of Scotland & the Scottish Soldier ballad haunting away in the pipes playing... I told him through his interpreter not to worry Scotland loved him and Kenny was well beat anyhow, introduced him to Gilroy facts, exchanged a few more words posed for a few more pictures and carried on with the night, That being said I'm looking forward to his story, so far sometimes the writer 'must' assume you (the reader) knows who's talking and just rolls from one person to another without actually bringing them into the story, but otherwise good so far, two chapters!

Complete set of 1st edition Black Dynamite by Nat Fleischer.
Fleischer set a high standard of writing that very few have managed to equal.

Also

The Sundowners; The History of the Black Prizefighter 1870-1930 by Kevin Smith.
This has got to be the biggest single book I own...a real encyclopedia, that`ll take a month or so to read...can`t wait

I think my choice illustrates the era that interests me..
The real old timers had so much more story to tell...modern time boxers have/had very little to their lives before, after or even away from the ring.

my lady gave me a book about lennox lewis its called mama's boy

Finshed reading it on Boxing Day. Very good, and the author isn't biased, which must be a first.

Calzaghe book and some dvd's. Happy days.

No I haven`t got the first book, to be honest the 2nd book covers the era that most interests me.

The Sundowners is just amazing in its content, it looks like a real life time of research has been put into it...I understand Kevin R Smith isn`t that old..yet this is his 2nd book...he must of started at a very young age

My one (minor) critism is that the book isn`t better indexed...
I`d have liked to have had a clear idea where the start of a chapter on a new boxer started.

The index at the back list every page the said boxer is mentioned on...so I guess that stops the likes of me skimming straight to their `favourite`...and kinda makes you read the whole book in turn....which you should anyway

I don`t need to add I hope you enjoy it...because I know you will just love the book.

Boxing-wise i got the Calzaghe-Kessler and the Best of Prince Naseem dvds.

Cash and other dvds filled the rest of my stocking! Oh, and 50 cans of Guinness.

Don't feel too hard done by...last year I got a signed 'autobiography' of Amir Khan....which I haven't opened since obviously....

Many things I got came in a box...

Some new 16oz sparring gloves and the Joe Calzaghe autobiography. Didnt ask for the JC book but will read it now I have been given it.

Also a new copy of Dark Trade - havent read it for years and lost/gave away my last copy so receiving it was a welcome surprise.

Non boxing related: Season 5 of Family Guy to complete my collection and a boxed set of the series 'Rising Damp' - the old ones really are the best!

Johnny Owen book, which I've read already, I found it so good!

Johnny was so dedicated to the sport, he lived the spartan lifestyle, trained all the time, etc.

Owen was just a guy who wanted to achieve his goals, have financial security & live a happy, content lifestyle.

The paragraphs which cover the moments with Jphnny & his father, Dick, on the night before the Pinto bout are very heart warming indeed!

Whilst reading the book, it came to me that when discussing British fighters down the years, Johnny is not given the recognition he deserves. I think people have forgotten Owen to a certain degree.
