was just thinking we go on alot about the upsets British boxers have caused on foreign shores, but what about the other way round? One of the shocks i can remember happening over here by a foreign fighter is Jorge Vaca beating Lloyd Honeyghan.

On a much smaller scale watching Jon Thaxton get stood on his head by Emmauel Augustus was a surprise at the time. The yank's spotty record masked his true ability.

Donovan Boucher (who recently mounted a comeback) beating Gary Jacobs was an upset at the time.

The decent Canuck came back to beat up Kirland Laing, Mickey Hughes and Eamon Loughran.

Vargas beating Hoko was an fair upset at the time, or at least the manner of it was.

Goyo Vargas sprung up from nowhere to give Paul Hodgkinson a pasting in Dublin - he looked something really special in there that night.

McCall vs lewis is what immediately sprung to mind.

Yes Vargas Hoko was the first one I thought of too. Del Valle KO1 Duke Mckenzie was a shocker.

Mickey Ward stopping Shea Neary was a surprise at the time too. Similar to Augustus, Ward came over with a patchy record, but what a tough SOB

You beat me to it. Neary was undefeated and Ward had about 9 losses, but a lot more experience at top level. Those bodyshots he hurt Shea with - ouch!

Not a massive shock at world level, but Buck Smith stopping Kirkland Laing in 7 springs to mind. If memory serves Laing was winning comfortably and Smith clocked him with a punch out of no-where.

That night included Bruno losing to Smith and on the same bill Mark Kaylor losing to Buster Drayton. In retrospect niether of these losses look too bad, as both of the americans went on to prove themselves on the world scene.

Strange to think of it now, but Glen Johnson beating Toks Owoh was considered an upset at the time!

I know he was a quality operator but I didn't expect an ancient Manuel Medina to upset Scott Harrison.

The manner of Ingle's loss to Botile could certainly be considered a shock too...

Sumbu Kalambay beating Bomber Graham was a big one, no-one predicted that. It was only later that Kalambay proved his class.

Graham was one fight from standing Iran Barkley on his head for
the WBA middleweight title... that and Mark Potter being KO'd by Williams
are the two things that irk me big time about boxing.
