one of my favorite slugfests was Foreman vs Lyle and Duran vs Barkley

Which was the best slugfest of all time in your opinion?

It's hard to top Foreman Lyle for just an old fashioned donnybrook.

However the first round of Codrington-Bika was pretty impressive for the 2007 version.

There was real good one this year:Israel Vasquez vs. Rafael Marquez. I see where they're going to fight the rubber match March 1st. I saw the last fight in Guadalajara,Mexico.(Fight was in Hidalgo,Tex) If this fight is shown in the US,don't miss it. It is supposed to be in the US. This is a real test for 2 machos of Mexico. They put everything on the line.

I have these fights, though I haven't watched them in a while. Which one are you talking about?

Foreman-Lyle is the one for me, since I'm a Foreman fan. Morales-Barrera I was a sensational back-&-forth battle. At one point the British commentator makes a point about the fight being broadcast at an inconvenient hour, & he says to those watching at home with a wry smile, "Glad you stayed up?"

More recently, Michael Katsidis -vs- Graham Earl in England is not particularly well-known amongst Americans, but that was simply breath-taking.

Foreman-Lyle, no question. Never in the ring's history had there been two such powerful and solid guys in the same ring. Five knockdowns in five rounds, which kept you guessing the entire time as to who would fall and when. There was times when you thought Lyle was going to win, and of course the same for Foreman. Was absoloutely beautiful.

Honorable mention? Only fight in history that comes remotely close in my mind is Firpo-Dempsey. Was only two rounds, but those two rounds were voted as "the greatest fight first half of the century."

Willard-Dempsey, you could make an argument for, but I believe it would be more under the category of "greatest/most entertaining fight" rather than greatest brawl, considering the fight was soooo damn one sided, that Willard might has well went into the ring with the words "Lamb Being Led To Slaughter" across his back.

I saw the 2nd fight down in Mexico. It was late and I was sleepy. I was going to turn off the TV,but I decided to watch a few rounds of Vasquez/Marquez. What a fight! After watching it I wasn't tired anymore!

How did you guys score the 4th round?

Foreman Lyle....I saw it in real time.....and I have to say it holds up pretty well but my memory of it upon seeing it in REAL TIME is interesting.

It was like watching a constant car crash for me it seems almost sleepy now in comparison to it's actuality. Don't get me wrong it is and forever will be a great watch but at the moment it was happening it was beyond description.

The fact that Foreman was in trouble first and fell first and fell hard the second time is what made it so electric and the fact that he finished on top was just amazing. Most would not get back up from ANY of those knockdowns. It's not nearly as amazing that there were 4 knockdowns but that there were 3 returns to vertical by these guys.

I gave the 4th to Lyle....two KD's vs 1.


I have to say also that in terms of great "returns to upright" Ali's return to vertical from Fraziers 15th round effort and Moores return to upright from Durelle's early round effort account for half of the 10 best "returns to vertical" that I have seen.

Would you have to scored the 4th 10-9 for Lyle because of the ten point must or would it be 9-8? Hell of a scrap.

Good question for Npal. If "must" is to be taken literaly then I suppose it has to be 10 -9 to be fair. But it takes some imagination to get there. I would be more comfortable with 9-8 myself. Because it captures the reality better.

I would actually be more comfortable with a 10-8 round for Lyle. When you think about it, outside of the knockdowns it was a reasonably close round, probably an edge to Foreman when he had Lyle trapped on the ropes with a minute remaining --- but I'm comfortable calling it more or less an even round before you factor in the knockdowns, consider - it's 10-8 Lyle, then level after Foreman drops him, & bring it back down to 10-8 following another Lyle knockdown, factoring in the, "must" part as BoxBuzz said. Just my take.

Using that card, I had it 38-37 for Lyle after four rounds.

then there is Kelvin Seabrooks vs Theirry Jacobs... not many people know about this fight but it was a true classic.... Seabrooks was like a mini Saad Muhammad for a while....

Leroy Murphy vs Chisander Mutti!!!.... has probably the most dramatic ending of any fight I have seen with a Rockylike double knockdown....
