I've never seen this fight, except of a clip of the very end where Chuvalo turned away.

Anybody ever seen this complete fight? It must have been brutal.

Was George ever close to going down?

This had to be one of Joe's best fights.

Fun while it lasted yancey, Chuvalo stood in front of Frazier and tried to mess him about on the inside but Joe had greater variety and speed, though Chuvalo was never in any danger of being dropped, at least until the start of the 4th round when Fraxier caught him with a hook that I believe fractured his eyesocket and Chuvalo half turned away, forcing the ref to stop the fight.

The pre title Frazier really was very intense, I watched a load of his fights again recently and had forgotten just how good he was.

The late 1960s Frazier seemed alot faster, more active with his punches and had greater versatility as well. He had throw backs to this in the 1970s, but especially against Ali he seemed to load up more on his shots, as opposed to letting them go and working that way.

The Chuvalo fight was a good bout, I really enjoy watching Frazier work.

Your point about the late '60s Frazier is a good one. I've noticed the same thing.

I think his actual peak as a fighter most likely occurred in the late '60s culminating with the Ellis fight in Feb, 1970.

Whether it was wear and tear or that he became too confident in his power. Frazier slowed up his punch rate as the 1970s opened.

Even at a late stage, he always made the fight exciting.
