There are fights that one reads about and grows with anticipation at getting to watch some day, and when you do... you think to your self
" That was it ?"

What for you guys are some fights that your peers or others have rated as great bouts for what ever reason yet you, yourself find to be boring or just not interesting.

Delahoya vs Trinidad...What a waste of time, what a waste of garbage.

Holyfield vs Lewis I....Another fight that I'd rather go to the park and take a shit.

I was looking forward to the Mike Tyson v Bonecrusher Smith fight for a long time. What a waste.

The Curry/McCrory fight was a huge letdown for me.

I dont mean fights that were anticipated.

I mean ones that you have read that happened in the past, and many claim are all time great fights. As opposed to let downs or fizzers.

You know fights that boxing historians claim are must see fights yet when you see them you think to yourself...."wow boring"

I wouldn't say it was boring, but I was disappointed in the quality of the Baer-Schmeling bout. Baer would throw telegraphed punches from leftfield, and somehow Schmeling had trouble avoiding them.
The last punches that Baer landed were pretty awesome. He certainly could hit if he connected.

Its funny you should mention this fight as I was only watching it the otjher day.

I think you will find that the quality of film makes the punches look wider...or atleast so i have been told.

I know I'll probably catch hell for this,but I didn't think Ali/Frazier I was that great a fight. We could see that Ali had lost his legs and resorted to leaning on the ropes. There certainly was tremendous build up for that fight,but for me didn't live up to the hype.

It's funny you should mention it, but I felt the same way about the third fight. I thought it was great, but greatest fight of all-time? That was the honour bestowed upon it by many I had heard from prior to seeing the bout, which I guess I wouldn't call a let-down since it was quite exciting, but no better than the original, which I thought really was an enthralling blue.

Hagler-Hearns

Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining and all, but not the greatest fight of all time. I suppose the drama at the time came from "what if" Hearns landed properly, but when you know the result, it's actually a bit one-sided.

Before my time,but the second Louis/Conn fight was a disappointment. Huge gate. After the war,so interest in boxing was growing again. First big fight after the war. Held in Yankee Stadium. Like Joe Louis said after the weigh in,"When I saw he(Conn) was eight pounds heavier,I knew he wasn't going to run"

Almost as boring as it was significant. The only reason i watch it from time to time is to see if i still have Leonard wining by 2 rounds. I still did at the last check.

Most of the drama at the time came from Hagler's cut, how much further could he go with that injury and so on. But that then became academic of course!

Agreed. I scored this by 2 points to Leonard at the time, and have scored it another 3 times since over the 20 years and can't get away from 115-113 Leonard.

I find this amazing. Ali-Frazier one is one of the best fights of all time, IMO. Fight 3 was possibly more gruelling but for pure action you can't beat Fight 1.

Dagosd2000, it sounds like you are saying that a fight is only great if Ali is at his peak! What about Frazier's contribution?!

I also thought ALI VS FRAZIER sucked.. it was basically who could outwork who. But the first one was definitely most exciting. I guess ingredient that made it a lot worse was knowing the result and never been able to be a fan of Frazier.

it was exciting until you understood that both chins were not going to budge a note. The end of 12-th round was crazy. This fight probably ruined Tua a bit.

Ali vs Spinks 2

I also didn't see Tua-Ibeabuchi live, and thought it to be a let down when I saw it after hearing all the hype about it. But, that said, I still sort of appreciated it, though, because of the idea of someone going toe to toe with Tua and surviving the distance and being competitive enough to beat him... though, then again, I thought it should have been a draw or maybe a Tua win.
