This is going to seem a weird one but....

The lads in my pub are all excited beyond belief about the Enzo Mac vs Haye fight.

For what it's worth the split is 50-50 as to who will win.

Anyway one of the guys pipes up with a classic: "Enzo is mustard, he would have knocked out Henry Cooper in a round."

This might be a little strong but it got me think how WOULD Enzo have fared with Cooper remembering they would be able to make catchweight if the contest was 'time for time' today?

What was Cooper's weight at the time? Wasn't Clay about 200-210 then?

I'd take Enzo for an early stoppage. He regularly weighs more than Cooper ever did in his whole career too.

Enzo may stop him but I don't think he was a better puncher than the likes of Patterson or Ali. No way does it end in 3 rounds imo and Cooper is better than anyone Enzo has shared a ring with.

Henry never weighed much more than 14 stone in his career, and I'm sure he never got near 15 stone

We could find out soon, Enry would have no trouble at all getting a WBO rating, and I'm sure Frank would been keen to make this historic match at the Millenium, as Enzo's comeback fight after Haye.

Enzo would probably TKO him or cut him to ribbons, from what I've seen of Cooper he was vastly overrated. Just a big hook.....

The nation took him to their hearts because he was plucky, just like Frank Bruno, Eddie the Eagle and even Eric the feckin Eel....

Cooper lost out to some journyman but dominated the british scene for years. He also held the European and commonwealth titles at variouse points in his carrer, I think in our days he would have been likly to have won one of the lesser world titles (WBU, WBO) I think he would just have too much gial when in a crisis for Mac so would come through some bad moments to win by a KO 8 or 9

Cooper would have sparked him out. Henrys level of opposition was far far superior

For that matter Henry would have done Haye as well. Probably a late knockout. Henry had tremendous stamina. Cooper hit fcuking hard, and remember Haye and Macca are both Chinny.

Cooper was extremely strong for his size and was a very dirty fighter. He would have roughed Haye and Macca up.

Cooper is underrated if anything.

Too big and too strong? Haye nearly got hishead knocked off by natrual 168 Lolenga Mock and Cooper at 37 went 15 with 6'5 230lb, 22 yearold Joe Bugner.

i cant belive your discussing who would win cooper had one punch (left hook) it was only ali messing about that he ended up on his arse anyway enzo would be to fit for cooper he hits to hard and has better movment for me it's enzo all the way and that includes koing haye in 3

Cooper was a nasty, ruthless, dedicated fighter. I don't recall Enzo or David Haye making it to the Olympics. You name it, Henry did it as a fighter: two ABA titles, three Lonsdale Belts, decking arguably the greatest heavyweight who ever lives... Just a fight after Clay struggled with the quick, sneaky Cooper, he ripped the world heavyweight title from the dreaded Sonny Liston. Haye and Maccarinelli would have beaten Liston, too, I suppose.

Its a bit of a silly thread really - Back in the 70s they did a similar thing on ITV - Who was the best HW Ali, Louis or Marciano and who would beat who? - Different times and none met the other, so its just opinion and you would be right (and wrong) whoever you picked - All three where superb and you could make a great case for each one being the best - I think Haye would be too big and strong for Cooper (unlike you younger people on here I actually saw Cooper fight) however Cooper moved well, hit hard and accurately and who knows maybe his style and punch may beat David Haye, we shall never know - Maybe David would win on cuts cos Enry did cut easily - As for Macca being beaten by Swaby, it was very early on in his career and (a) he has improved one hell of a lot since then and (b) Enzo had a bad night and Swaby although a decent fighter was lucky to get the win - Enzo/Haye is such a close fight its hard to pick the winner - Thats why its a fight we have all been waiting for, not knowing who can beat who - Both hit hard and both have been dropped - We can have a favourite, we can have an opinion but unlike Haye/Cooper when Haye/Macca fight we should get a winner and see for ourselves who is the better man.
