I had it 115-113 to Ngoudjo. I feel quite sorry for him now, as his only 2 losses could easily have gone his way. As for Paulie, I can't see him holding on to that title for long.

Very predictable, cosy judging where the 'home' fighter is the default for all close rounds

What channel was it on? I rolled in at 3.30am and found the SPL round up on Setanta 1 and a Ligue 1 French game on Setanta 2. The only listing for the fight I see is 7pm, Setanta 1 on Sunday.

I can't believe that judging, I really can't. Even though I like Paulie Malignaggi he didn't win that fight, and he was absolute shit - it would've been different if Herman Ngoudjo had finished Paulie off in the seventh or possibly eighth when he had Paulie on shaking legs.

Most of the Yanks seem to think he just nicked it. Either way by all accounts his showing exposes how f*ckin ridiculous that thread they had up about how he would have outclassed Hatton was. Some of the logic was that because he outboxed frickin Lovemore N'Dou he would do the same to Hatton. I mean come on. N'Dou is a journeyman and does anyone seriously think he could have taken Tsyzu, Collazo, Urango or Castillo (and probably Phillips and Tackie to boot) to anything other than a late stoppage or clear points defeat.
I mean they bang on over there how great Mayweather is. Hatton goes up in weight and over to fight him and gets beat by him in one of PBF's greatest displays and suddenly that makes Hatton shit.

So shit in fact that Malignaggi , who has now 2 half decent wins to his name and can't punch for toffee, would school Hatton for fun.
Astounding logic as usual on the General Forum.

I agree with you.
There's no-way on God's green planet that Paulie Malignaggi would beat Ricky Hatton. Lovemore N'Dou was taylor-made for Paulie, he was slow, plodding and took a million shots when he threw himself into punches. I mean could you imagine Paulie picking off Hatton with jabs, without hurting him? If Herman Ngoudjo can have him shaking like that after a few decents shots, just imagine what one of Hatton's hooks to the body/head would do.
Also, I wish the Yanks would stop banging on about Paulie's performance against Miguel Cotto - he would've been killed even more than he was if Cotto was a natural light welter.

You must be forgetting the geeral logic that American fighters have to be the best, even if they have no pedigree, because the journeymen they beat were AMERICAN journeymen, goddamnnit!!!
The fight was close - I'd say as many as seven rounds were so close that you could reasonably score them either way. My own card was 116-112 Ngoudjo, but the two friends I was watching with both had it for Pauli by one point...

I thought Lovemore would have done this to Paulie, albeit with a few more smarts and a bit more persistence. If Lovemore and moved forward constantly and been hell bent on winning, he would have done better than Herman did, at least going by the Lovemore-Rabah and Lovemore-Mitchell fights.
I had Ngoudjo winning. Malignaggi was fricking feeble, regardless of how anyone scored it. Even though he was making Herman miss and lose his balance, he landed little of worth himself and it appeared to me that Herman was landing the more meaningful shots. If only he wasn't such a wide puncher he would have done way better. Reminds me a bit of Alcine-Simms, where a decently schooled Canadian refused to be intimidated by "pure boxing" American style and away location in a close fight.
Now, is Ricky Hatton-Malignaggi really such a big fight??

First Tarver and now Malignaggi - yep, the Yanks bend over backwards to accept any US fighter with a dickface personality and even an ugly style so long as they have some kind of title and keep their jaws flapping. "Elite" my arsehole.

Horrible decision, really bad. Ngoudjio won the fight... I had it 8-4 to Herman and I think it was more like a 9-3 than 7-5 fight in his favour.
Predictable, but horrible.
Indirectly puts Jose Luis Castillo back in the picture.

I said Faginsally was garbarge, garbarge + more garbage and i wouldn't even bother watching him fight...his only claim to fame is getting his face broken by a drained Cotto..now what?......i bet Vicky Fatton will deffo fight Faginsally next.

I had it 116-112 or 117-111 for Ngoudjo. No way Malignaggi won that fight. Horrible robbery. Hatton will fight Paulie now hes got a gift

Paulie just didn't effing do anything. Art of boxing like fvck. This was like Johnny Nelson at his near-worst or Silvio Branco.
He may have been hindered by his bad right hand again, but I expected more from him.

I had Herman winning 115-113 and that was probably a bit generous to Paulie. What a poor decision that was by the judges, the score of 116-111 was just staggering, what fight was that guy watching?

.Sure there was a couple of close rounds but there was far more obvious ones that went to Herman.
I bet Witter and Hatton will have been licking their lips at the prospect at facing Paulie on the back of that performance. If Herman can have that much success by just throwing the right hand then imagine what Ricky and Witter would do to him.

That was a really bad decision, Paulie was running for the last 3 rounds.
Also I thought Chazz Witherspoon was lucky to win

It wasn't the worst robbery I have seen. I had Ngoudjo winning the fight 115-114, but I wouldn't argue with a draw. Herman took his foot off the gas in round 8 and allowed Malignaggi to establish the jab again and take that round and also the 9th for me, this was where he let it slide away from a convincing win. Close fight, not the easiest to score. 116-111 was a ridiculous score though.
As for the talk of Paulie schooling Hatton. It's an absolute joke, Ricky gets outboxed by a master and people see Malignaggi as the man at light welter who can box slightly like Mayweather, and think he can do the same. Malignaggi isn't very strong and Hatton would steamroll him. They forget that Hatton was fighting out of his weight division against Floyd and his strength was not as telling as it was at light welter and as Hatton said himself he can really notice the difference 7lbs north. HATTON TKO around 7 or 8 imo if Paulie is on a good day. Don't say how can Ricky stop him when Cotto couldn't because we all know Miguel was weight drained at 140 and not the stronger fighter he now is at 147.
I see Ricky Hatton being delighted at what he seen last night (I hoped they screened it in the pub) and it's a way for him to fulfil his dream of headlining at MSG with an easy-ish title fight.

But surely Paulie is seen as a stinker by now? Not big enough a name, etc?

Autobarn wrote:Not big enough a name, etc?
You could say that but they didn't go by that reasoning when fighting Urango or Collazo. It was all about the title and what HBO wanted. With Hatton-Malignaggi they get the gunning for his old title angle, fighting at MSG and with Ricky basically being the boss of himself these days that could sway it, also Malignaggi is quite popular over there so if it makes money it makes sense (to them that is).
I'd rather see Hatton-Witter myself.

Close fight, I would edge towards Herman myself but it wasn't a downright robbery like some of you are proclaiming. Spectacles tinted a little by him being a future Hatton foe perhaps??
As for Witherspoon he is shockingly bad for a 'prospect'. So easy to hit and can't crack an egg. Even Greenberg did a better job on Releford.
