What British fights would you like to see this year?

I'd say the obvious Hatton V Witter, and also Khan V Thaxton- proper, meaningful competative fights. The difficulty is that I doubt either will happen because both Hatton and Khan have too much to lose.

I've also gone for Herbie Hide V Harrison, just because I think it would be ace- have a really grudge match feel to it ( as would Khan Thaxton.)

Murray-Thaxton, Murray-Fewkes, Murray-Meager. Get a move on Murray! Appleby vs someone serious. Truscott likewise. Darren Barker vs perhaps Eastman, Elcock or Jamie Moore. Moore-Pryce, is another must have, but this just means all the spoils go to Sports Network and Setanta most probably. Don't want to see Frank take everything as monopoly is bad news, especially with Sky seemingly keeling over. Mitchell-Johanesson, but this is again a great domestic fight lost by Sky (or it was, with Johanesson fighting on "away" promotion before pullout...reason for pullout?), who are supposed to look after UK boxing from the grassroots.

Sky - please get Munyai and Olusegun in the domestic mix, where possible.

Setanta - good fights involving the FW featherweights-lightweights. That means Arthur, Mitchell, maybe Scott Harrison if he comes back, and anyone else. We should hold FW to his UK boxing golden age that he wants.

Hide vs Haye-Macca winner or loser.

Hide V Haye would be excellent- they could have it at heavyweight, which would suit Haye who is struggling to make cruiserweigh. Two punchers- yeah, what a fight!

I want to see Wayne Elcock-Darren McDermott (Birmingham vs The Black Country), the winner against Matthew Macklin and Rob Norton-Carl Wright (the Midlands two best cruiserweights).

Although they may be all-Midland clashes – and probably only appeal to people in this area – they are all good fights, capable of stirring up big interest.

I would probably have to pick against my fellow Brummie and fellow Blues fan and give the edge to McDermott in this one. His style would be too busy for Wayne and his greater reach would give Elcock fits.

Agreed, Dan. Macca would win this one. Anyone who has seen Macca will know he is the truth, though he has been struggling to make the middleweight limit for his last two contests (stoppage wins over Conroy McIntosh and Kai Kauramaki).

McDermott’s workrate and accuracy is scary. He seems to be really sitting down on his punches these days and I love the way he slots those right hands in from a distance. Although his chin has yet to be tested by a one-punch banger - with the possible excpeption of Conroy - he seems to be able to take a good shot.

It would be a huge fight, selling tickets in the multiples of thousands.

By the way, Elcock makes a voluntary defence of his Lonsdale belt in March.

Mitchell v khan. no chance of this one happening. also pacman v khan, im dreaming again.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Hatton Witter and I don't blame Hatton for it which I never thought I'd end up saying.

He's a multi - millionaire and Witter would be likely to knock him out. Surely more fun things to do under those circumstances. And why not, Hatton's paid his dues against some tough hard fighters. And besides, we've already got Haye Maccarinelli, which for a long time looked unlikely, no point getting greedy.

Fighters I'll be keeping an eye on the progress on in 2008, in no particular order, are:

OLUSEGUN, every ounce a prospect as Khan in my opinion.

NUUMBEMBE (who I hope stays over here, now that he is without his main moneymaker, i.e. Commonwealth title).....Nuumbembe strikes me as the kind of guy who would hold his own at a much higher level than he's been boxing at. It's really a case of can he make it there or will the ever ticking clock beat him.

CRAIG WATSON - stands to reason.

LEE MCALLISTER - silky skills, big ticket seller, big mouth (apparently). I think there must be more to come at some point from this guy. Yet to meet his match. He doesn't seem to box prolifically, which may or may not be part of the reason.

PAUL APPLEBY

AMIR KHAN

JUNIOR WITTER - he'll get his big fight eventually if he plugs away at it.

JOHN O'DONNELL - looked a great talent when outclassing Stuart Elwell last March for the English belt, but things went a bit tits up in America when he knocked out in 2 rounds.

No wonder this is so hard.........half the fights are either extremely unlikely to come off (think Hatton Witter) , or in the case of say a Khan - Thaxton, an unappealing one sided victory for Khan

hey, if nothing else comes off there's always Matthew Hatton against Adnan Amar.

I think Khan would win too, but it would at least make for a good fight against Thaxton, who at least brings to the ring a decent chance of knocking Khan out.

you make a fair point of course. And what we have to bear in mind, as much as we may expect a Khan victory, Thaxton is deservedly British Champion........so really, the fight has to go ahead.

I've got a lot of respect for Jon Thaxton, a real pro - but the longer this gets put off the older he gets, and the better Khan gets.

Also Thaxton has a good record of recent wins, too, it not like Earl who was coming off a rather rough loss.

If Thaxton did win, which is certainly possible, then that might set him up for a crack at something big, and I'm fairly certain Khan would come back stronger in the long run.
