I see he won a KO 1 again the other night, how good is he, and how good can he be?

he's Ko'd Kedebe in 2 (former scott harrison opponent who went in 1) and got up off the floor to beat De Jesus TKO6. But just what sort of potential are we talking here? Late to turn pro at feather, 26.

The man won the Olympic Gold medal with relative ease...he can be a genuine world champion.

I believe he should be ready for a titkle shot by the summer or early fall. Looking at the champion's it coul dbe interesting as none of them are mugs. Luevano is a smooth boxer with improving power and works well inside, Linares is a special fighter who can do it all, Guerrero is pretty decent puncher and again has good skills and at 5'10 would pose style problemsfor most. Chris John is a bit of a runner and has good boxing skills. I know Gamboa is number 5 at the WBA rating's.

Interesting to see what happens.

he definitely should be fast tracked.

featherweight is an average division at the moment.

the only one i would keep him from at the minute would be linares.

but only cos it could become a massive fight.

Gamboa is a joy to watch. His temperament seemed very good when the referee pushed him in the De Jesus fight, because he pushed De Jesus. I didn't like Gamboa head butting though. Very, very skilled fighter.

he is a mixture of Hamed and Tyson...

the guy takes bouts a little bit too easy, indeed a joy to watch, need to work slightly more on the defense

sure bet to become a champion, if continues to take boxing seriously (I heard that the Cubans in Germany are somewhat enjoying the free life maybe a little bit too much...)

I was (pleasentlyy) surprised at the ease in which he beat Kedebe and De Jesus in. Dont see much of Tyson in him, at all. More like the flamboyant style of Jones Jr, hand low, quick single shots followed by flashy combinations.

His record is a pristine 9-0-0 ( 8 ) but its his amatuer pedigree that really marks him out as one to watch:

During his amateur career at 75kgs he defeated Matvey Korobov, Lucian Bute, Andy Lee, Andre Direll. He won a gold medal at the Amateur World Championship and a silver medal at the last Olympic Games.

At 25 he is young enough to make an impact - lets hope we get to see him in action soon.

I'd favor Gamboa to beat the champs at feather right now however I'd wait a year before putting him in with Linares (just in case). He's a bit overconfident and will need to calm down as the fights get longer though.

About Golovkin I think he's overhyped. I mean, yes he's really good but his fights used to be awful sometimes. He's an awkward and dirty fighter and his bouts tend to be rough.

Featherweight is going to be a great division. Linares and Chris John as champs. Vazquez-Marquez 3 winner probably moving up. Jackson Asiku and Willie Kickett on the way up as well, with the same trainer as Chris John (Craig Christian) in Oz...

My opinion of Luevano has soured a bit. He made a bit of a big meal out of fighting Antonio Davis. Katz remarked that he made a "Herculian task of it." Then again, Guzman looked shite against Davis.

I wonder if Gamboa will keep his weight down, or if he'll start plodding North through the divisions.

What makes you think gamboa will resist the lures of women & excess beer now he's a "free" man ? Sure he wont go down that route?

Here is his opening round match from the 2003 World Champs. He looked a razor sharp, well drilled amateur. Be interesting to se if his style adapts to the pro game fully:
