Apparently I've heard the first bell for the main event will ring at 2am. It such a pain in the arse having to cater for American TV again, especially at those ticket prices. Also the tube and trains will probably all stop running by the time fans come out of the O2 and are ready to go back home or to their hotels. London cabs will make a killing.

i doubt it, as setanta is scheduled to play the maskaev v peter card around 2 am..unless they cancel that and have the haye vs mac on instead...i fuccin hope not!!

Yeah and if you have Setanta on freeview then your signal goes at 3am, so you'll miss the end of the fight if it goes the distance.

What I read was that Showtime (US cable network) got involved. At first it said they were showing it on delay that evening, but then I read they had got it live. Meaning 1:30 am start or thereabouts our time.

Thought Maskaev v Peter was late Feb. Haye-Mac is in March.

If they're both on that date, and both on Showtime, then why can't they show Maskaev live, since it's on the same continent, and Haye-Macc delayed after the HW fight, giving us the chance to see it at a sociable hour.

I don't know why Euro fights have to go LIVE to the states anyway. It's not difficult to avoid a result for a few hours. It's usually your own fault if you fail to do so. Just don't go online, on teletext or watch the sports channels, and don't look at texts from boxing friends. Simple. I used to avoid US fight results until BBC used to show them delayed late on Sunday nights.

So we moan when American's don't take our fighters seriously or demand British fighters fight in the USA and we moan when they take interest in British fighters, in British fights on British soil.

Jeez.

I'm all for them showing interest in British fights, but as said, no reason why they can't show it on a delay that would amount to no more than four hours.

In the past they didn't mind but now results are instantly available on the net so you can understand why they don't want to do it.

I would rather America didn't give a shit and I got to see it live at the venue

This fight has absolutely feck all to do with America. They can take whatever interest they want - but why should this interest inconvenience almost everyone who actually wants to see the fight?

The answer is, of course: The only reason they are having it live is because they have stumped up the cash. Such is the way of the world.

I don't think so, Chambers. Or it certainly doesn't appear that way. Only a couple of days ago Showtime were saying they were showing it on delay. A similar thing seemed to happen with Calzaghe-Kessler.

According to Showtime, the Haye fight had already been agreed BEFORE they decided to take itlive.

The early morning start for Calzaghe was dropped on people after it was announced it would be a normal UK start...inconveniencing people who had already sorted transport, etc.

It's more money for the promotion, of course. But, as I've said, almost all of the people who actually want to see the fight are being inconvenienced, some hugely.

If Showtime get on the blower and offer half a million knicker to screen the fight live, then I feel most promoters would take the offer.

Especially as in this case, the promoters right hand man for USA is Jay Larkin, former supremo of boxing at Showtime.

One thing I will say though Ian.

In the long term, this could be no bad thing. If Haye and Maccaranelli turn in a cracking performance, and it's a compelling fight, then it's good for British Boxing.

After all, this isn't just a domestic tussle, it's a cruiserweight unification bout of sorts, and more to the point, it's for the pretty much undisputed title.

This could bring some serious exposure to both men, and whatever the result, both men could come up trumps off the back off this, especially for Haye who is looking to crack the Heavyweight division, and presumably America.

i wonder how seatnta will serve us come march 9th..??

Why can't the Americans watch it at 4pm (or whatever) their time? I've never understood why it always HAS to be evening shows.

I assume that Setanta will stay on air after 3am? Given that the nominal bell time is 2am, there could well be delays, and of course the fight might last the distance.

This could really be a screw up if they have to go off air.

Annoying, really, that such a good fight seems to be becoming bogged down with crazy ticket prices, and now a daft start time.
