Wow! very interesting - saying that I am not one that like the thought of poaching amateur Cubans!

His "amateur" name was Ismaikel Perez and I think he was the number two , after Osmay Acosta, in Cuba as a heavyweight. He also won a gold as a light heavy in 2004 years World Junior Championships. So absolutely an interesting newcomer to the heavyweight scene.

This could be exciting stuff. Anyone at the card last night who can comment on Perez, and also Belshaw?

Wasn't at the card but was told Belshaw looked good shedding the rust. Dropped the Latvian early and then out in the 3rd. Gorman and Walsh was supposedly a cracker for the main event and O'Sullivan stopped Peter Dunn.

Nothing on Perez as yet.

Perez won by way of a first round stoppage.

I wasn't at the fights just had a running commentary on the phone from the corner. Perez looked OK in his first outting but it wasn't really long enough to gauge anything. His sparring session with Belshaw a week ago might give a better example of his work. I should have video footage of the sparring session early next week.

Fight of the night had to go to Gorman and Walsh. Gorman was again unlucky to lose by one point and not to have the knock down in the 10th counted. Gorman has already been robbed once (against Murray ) in an attempt to win an Irish title. I should have video availible and uploaded to the usual places by the end of next week.
