small delivered tonight.

i always said he could mix with the best of british.

he was doing well against pryce until he got over confident and slackened off.

give small that rematch with pryce. :box:

I heard he gave Takaloo a right hammering! Any thoughts on his fight?

Takaloo looked shot. Small looked good, and his stamina levels looked better than against Pryce but he still leans away from punches instead of moving or parrying.

He can win the British title now that Jamie has vacated.

SRCJJ was superb tonight, as I predicted, albeit prematurely.

In person he is a lovely fella, very humble and just a regular Londoner.

He has the potential to beat anyone, needs to get his jab going and top quality sparring.

Maybe he should get some sparring with Howard or Duddy etc.

A bright spark for the future no doubt.

Class work tonight Anthony.

ARe you serious? You obviously have not seen spoken to him for any length of time or seen some of the libertis he takes when sparring novices.

He talks fast, but isn't that bright in reality.

I agree he's much more down to earth in reality but humble??? I'm sorry maybe there are two Anthony Smalls??

Speak as you find. I have met him numerous times over the last 5 years.

As far as I am concerned he is one of the good guys.

John Mugabi and Lloyd Honeyghan were ruthless in sparring against allcomers, as were countless other champions. If you wanner box get used to it.

Chris Eubank used to get a bad rep for beating up sparring partners (sometimes Badly..) and would openly admit it, saying he'd given them the briefing that it would be brutal..

I slagged Small off after his last fight against Pryce calling him an attention seeking wasting fool, especially after the youtube thing he did shortly after the loss. Never met the guy, don’t know what he’s about or what he wants from the game. The superficial mouthy stuff I can see through – i've seen it many times before. The guy has some talent but chooses to be a cheap ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ copycat of the middle names he has adopted. He comes across as a cocky, cheaky and confident character looking to court interest in himself when he would be best served by nurturing the talent he has and taking it to its full potential. Maybe Brian Alexander will help him towards that end whilst tempering his ill-conceived controversy seeking persona. I listened to his interview at the end of the fight and I couldn’t dislike him at all. He seems a decent cocky full of himself character looking for reaction - either positive or negative - to feed his ego and there's nothing wrong with that as long as he produces the goods to match the mouth. I think he’s the type of fighter that will excite and disappoint in equal measure throughout his career.

I must admit i was impressed with Small tonight although Takaloo was shot to bits. Small showed good patience, power and systematically broke his man down. Modest as ever in the interview, his personality is either love him or hate him!

I saw him sapr Errol Chrstie a few times and he didnt take liberties, despite them being at polar opposite ends of their careers.

Taking liberties with sparring partners for your fight is not a problem.
It's when you take liberties with people who are clearly not in your league.

There's a world of difference between going hard on a new pro or ambitious amateur and a 15 fight unbeaten pro beating up a 1 bout amateur. keep fitters and even a guy who's never sparred before....

Small was very very good in destroying tak..He's a finished fighter though and I feel that messing with his weight too much was a big factor in this..He's lost his resistance just like Roy Jones Jr did when coming back down in weight to Light Heavy!! I know Tak went up and not down BUT the damage had already been done in my eyes..Welterweight was far too much for him!!!

i watched eubank spar cornelius carr in 1992 and also dean francis when he was 19 and they were beating him up. they were open workouts in peckham city centre. but chris wasnt using the ring, he just kept loading up and leaving himself open to punches. it looked weird. and alot of kids and women were walking away, they didnt like it.

I didn't fully catch Small's post fight interview but he was going on about using the British/European titles as stepping stones for world honours. Was he stating he would be taking the traditional route or was he claiming he had proved he didn't need to go through all that and is ready for a world title shot? I couldn't quite hear him but i assumed the latter and if so that's arrogance, i hope he is clear headed enough to realise he still has a lot to learn and needs to tread the boards before stepping into better class.

He was coming off a loss and beat a faded version of Takaloo for the Southern Area title. I can only think of four words next for Small and can predict his next move....

WBU Light Middleweight Title

what was small's workrate like in this fight? sounds like he actually threw punches rather just strutting around the ring thinking he's roy jones?

Posted: 13 Jan 2008, 15:01
by steve689
Decent workrate but his punch picking was good and he preserved energy by laying on the ropes and letting Tak whale away with open gloved expending energy of his own. Everytime Small landed flush Takaloo wobbled and it seemed a matter of time. However, i think his stamina holds question marks still Riddick and will be interested to see it tested again soon.

Not the music that caused the controversy, something more mainstream that he has used in the past. Can't remember exactly what though.

Whatever happened to Snap! The Power: the default entrance music for most fighters in the early 90s :o

Small looked good so props to him, but to be fair Takaloo has been fucked for years.

He was shot vs Jennings, he's no more than an opponent now.

Small came out to 'I feel good' by the godfather of soul himself.

On the fight itself, Small did ok but I honestly think a fighter with genuine world title aspirations would have blown that version of Tak out in 2/3 rounds.

Maybe he was being cautious and didn't want to take chances having lost his last fight. We'll see, I don't reckon Small goes that far though, probably British title level at best.

The fact that he could only name 2 world class LMW was a little worrying too. Maybe he just got a mental block.
