What do we make of that then?! Could be a tough test.....

He's been in with quality (Corrales and Harris) but seems to come up short in the big tests.

Another feather puncher though, but can't complain at short notice, I guess.

St Clair is a SFW & is not known for his punching power. Khan is a big LW, soon to be LWW.

I really don't see it being any kind if test & that's no disrespect to Gary. Khan is improving with each fight - I, & not a lot of others could have forseeen the way dismantled Earl in his last fight.

Khan needs to be truly tested, but he won't be. Bottom line is, Khan-Thaxton should be happening, but it is not, which is s shame.

I guess Khan is too much of a commodity, thus the reason he won't be tested.

The size will look almost like St Clair-Corrales. I know Khan is shorter than Corrales was, but he's going to weigh a lot more than Gairy on the night, and will probably dwarf the crouch fighting Aussie. It's another cosmetic, look-good fight considering that St Clair held the IBF super feather belt as recently as last year.

Hasnt this guy fought as high up as light welterweight if he fought Harris?

Mixed with some class opponents, and he aint been ko'd and he has a 50 % ko ratio, much better than the original guy.

The question I ask myself is do I think this is a more meaningful fight than Jon Thaxton, I think probably yes, Thaxton has fought higher wight while St Clair has fought against higher quality. Thaxton is comming off a greater winning streek but by all accounts looked shit in his last fight, all in all I'd say it's a better fight appart from the power thing.

Its a fair fight but the power thing is a big issue, and the way Khan is ducking Thaxton is making him look silly to put it mildly. He keeps boasting about being world champion soon yet wont face an old boy like Jon!... why???.....   8)

A former world champion who has never been stopped and has mixed in good company. That's a decent little fight for your 16th pro fight if you ask me.

It is a good fight to bring something different out of Khan as St. Clair could bring him the full 12 for the first time and be reasonably competitive and will fancy causing an upset. I like this one.

Excellent stand in - a RECENT former world champion also. He possibly has aspirations of regaining that IBF belt.

Its a reasonable fight but still not as interesting as the Thaxton one would be and the Thaxton fight is a natural!. Khan cant go through his whole career fighting nonpunchers and hope to retain his credibility....

Thread Hopping! This was being discussed in another thread, called "Amir Khans Opponent" or something.

Khan to win on points, thats my verdict. Its certainly possible though that Khan will get tired, struggle over the distance.

I wonder if Khan can get hurt in this one even, I doubt St Claire is a lighter puncher than Limond so if the fight goes into the later rounds or Amir leaves his chin out it could get interesting....

Is Gairy St Clair really a decent opponent? He's 5′ 4″, which makes me think Amir Khan is going to look huge against him.

Here are some things people have said about him:
He'll break you down, but I don't even think ONE lucky punch from this guy can knock down a guy who has a soso chin.
Gary's fighting style:

- have good reflexes and defensive skills
- he is a skilled boxer, smart, slick and an experienced fighter.
- Does not have a knockout punch but can weaken his opponent
systematically. He can also deliver good body punches.
- Can move in and out. Strike volume of punches then move out to avoid
counterpunches.
- have long arms, good long jab.
- his offense and defensive style is similar to that of a slow version of Floyd
Mayweather Jr.
- does not look good when pressured
- this guy is fun and exciting to watch.
- St. Clair is definitely a better fighter than Orlando Salido !
He has a good chin and hard to hit. A great test for any hard puncher.

not a bad opponent (if the fight happens) and in reality he has fought at a higher level than thaxton, so looks like a decent piece of matchmaking.

but his age looks against him, he might just be over the hill !!

fornicate me, gairy st claire? this guy can fight, frankie must be pretty sure he's shot.

he'll be sticking around for the duration. look for khan to get clumsy.

should be good odds on st claire and no doubt he's got a better shot than graham earl did...

Christ some people, he fights someone good and your reaction was that pudendum warren must be shure he's shot!

I think he's probably on the slide but I welcome the fight to the extent that I welcomed Haye taking on King Arther Williams, though maybe a level above. Would realy like to see him take on Yuri Romaonv for the european title though.

St Clair is a good fighter, I just wish he wasn't a Super-Feather. Why do they always have to do that? Always a trick of Frankies, even when the opponent is a decent world class operator there is always that little angle -that advantage for the house fighter - and normally it's that he outweighs his opponent by a stone at least come fight night.

Thats my thing aswell and why I think he should travel the british and european route. Then you konw that he'll be fighting decent and proven opperators at the weight. However he should certainly learn something from the fight. But please please please please please fight a lightweight I have heard of next.

Just as a comparison, here are some other top boxers and who they faced in their 16th fight.

De La Hoya - John Avila
Roy Jones - Jorge Vaca
Ray Leonard- Bernardo Prada
Joe Calzaghe- Anthony Brooks

Best one i could see was for an opponent

Pernell Whitaker v Jose Luis Ramirez, but of course Whitaker lost, or so the judges said.

On paper excellent. But Gairy is a frayed fighter and he's a light hitter moving up. If Khan is Naz, Gairy is Bungu - that's all I'll say.

Very good test I would say. You have got to lok at the guys record and see who he has taken the distance, Hard fight for me

Good fight for this stage in his career. Agree with Silkov that the Thaxton fight still makes more sense and earns Khan a British title.

Think Khan will win, probably a UD but it won't be easy and can see him looking fairly clumsy in doing so. Will be good to see him go a few rounds but I still say he needs to face someone soon who has power to frighten him. There is just no need to rush him into a world title just for the sake of it and concentrate on his development for now

Thaxton would be a fighter that Khan should outbox, that should take him the distance and that should ensure he keeps his concentration throughtout the fight as he could end it with one punch.

Stop making excuses, Fenech fought for a title in his 7th fight ,Tszyu fought an ex world champion in his 4th fight , Danny Green fought Beyer in his 16th fight Mundine fought Ottke in his 12th fight. There's no excuses for an olympic Silver medalist to fight the opposition he has to this point.

Earl and StClair are better than his previous opponents but there far from real tests of his abilitys at there age.

So if khan blows him out and stops him in say 4-5 rounds? then what do we say?? clair was shot, was too small? or khan is the man?

I honestly think the size difference is going to be to much and khan hits too hard and fast, khan wins TKO Round 5-7.
