No Hatton-Rees!

Ricky Hatton says he will not be fighting WBA light-welterweight champion Gavin Rees.

Reports at the weekend suggested that Hatton could face Welshman Rees, 28, in May at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

But Hatton's father and manager Ray has revealed that the terms of the fight did not suit the 29-year-old.

"The prospect of a fight with Rees was put to us but the terms were not right and it won't be taking place," said Hatton senior.

"We have a long list of would-be opponents and a long list of venues.

"Ricky has said his next fight will be in Britain as a thank you to his fans who have been travelling across the Atlantic."

Rees, who is trained by Enzo Calzaghe in Newbridge, had been keen to face Hatton who lost to Floyd Mayweather in December.

"I'd love to get it on with Ricky," Rees told the South Wales Argus.

"It would hand Ricky a shot at a title, it's a fight the British public will love.

"The WBA title is a very prestigious world title so why wouldn't Ricky fancy going for it? I want the big fights and it would be a right tear-up, but if anyone thinks Ricky versus me would be a miss-match then they're having a laugh.

"I'm a quality boxer who would love to give Ricky a right going over - and I do believe I'd beat him."

But Ray Hatton has now poured scorn on that prospect and his son will now explore other possibilities.

Junior Witter has also been mentioned as another potential opponent for Hatton.

So, just who is Ricky going to box against come May 24th? Malignaggi, Witter? Who?

If it's not the two names above, then really, the big names at LWW are running out.

That's a shame. I would have liked to see it. But really, as long as it's someone in the Boxrec Top 20 I'll be happy.

If it's not Rees, Witter or Malignaggi then surely it's going to be Torres?
Can't see him not fighting for a belt.

I suspect, Warren wanted an option of another fight of Hatton's in exchange for Rees WBA belt.

Just a wild guess.

If hes serious about thanking the fans then why not give them the fight they want and get it on with Junior Witter

Cannot see Frank doing it any other way. He would surely love the chance to promote Hatton again.

Good...Hatton/Rees is a s**t fight, even if Hatton is coming off a bad loss.

Rees would be a poor fight - without the WBA belt Rees is just a short, scrappy bloke who took his chance when it came. Its no insult to say he isn't part of the world class elite at 10 st.

Its Witter or no one as far as I am concerned.

Is it me, or does Team Hatton come off badly in that interview?

Could be just the way the article has been written, but after the Witter just say "No", "No", just say "No", just say "Noooo" it seems like they think fighters are beneath them now.

Maybe it's just me.

Can you imagine Hattons lot even giving Rees a moments thought a little while back - Had Hatton beaten Mayweather, Rees would be the last fighter on his mind - The loss to Mayweather has put Ricky in a very difficult postion - He has had to return to LWW and the obvious fight, Witter is the one fight he doesnt want - Will team Hatton say "fvck what the fans want", probably.

probably a non title fight but for the "ring belt" which hatton still holds and the WBU belt which I believe he also has, Hatton's fans won't know the difference. Perhaps Ted Bami?

Hatton-Rees would've been a horrid mismatch anyway, what the hell does Rees have to win with?

I believe if Rees fought Hatton the way he won the WBA belt, i.e in and out , hi work rate, he could out point Hatton.
