Frank Maloney on Setanta Sports

Ok, we all knew it was unlikely Matt was going to pull off a win in Germany, but did studio guest Frank Maloney really need to take such great delight when saying Matt had absolutely no chance of winning and was going to receive a boxing lesson. It was like he was hoping for mismatch. He's entitled to his own opinion, but Frank was being a smug little midget and I hope Setanta Sports don't use him again.

I think he's entitled to his opinion.
And if he wants to wallow in the spectacle of Skelton being outclassed and mugged off after Skelton dumped him- good luck to him!

He came across as a cock all night to be honest, and picking Tito over Jones, was the point where I lost any respect for his opinion at all.

He's the biggest-name promoter in Britain, and the most experienced, but has also been abit of a dickwad.

to his credit at least frank said what he thought and did not just sing from the songsheet of the tv producer. you lot are normally quick to criticise studio pundits (barry macguigan being the best example) saying the things that the promoter and producer want them to say.
good on ya frank, thats what i say.
the best we were gonna get from skelton was a solid workman like performance where he did not disgrace himself and lost on points. that is exactly what we got !!

Didn't Matt dump Eugene Maloney??
I think that might be part of Frank's gripe?

Haven't Eugene and Frank fallen out over money? That's greed for you...

Maloney did seem to be bending over backwards to be criticial of Skelton, especially as he used to have a promotional interest in him. If he was so crap, why did he ever sign him?
Came off like sour grapes to me, as with his comments about Lewis after he was dumped by him.
But it didn't really bother me; as Rhino said, it was even somewhat refreshing to hear a critical studio voice.
What will have got Frank in more trouble, I'm sure, is claiming "The Germans are a boring race of people".

He certainly did seem a little negative and childish towards Skelton and his cahnces.

Frank Maloney should be cut some slack on every subject due to the fact that he owns and wears his Union Jack suit when he takes a fighter abroad. Respect!
I'm gonna get one of them suits when I grow up

My mate lives in Berlin, and he says it's the best place he has ever lived, and he has lived in New York, L.A, Tokyo, London, Nice, Paris, etc etc etc. He said that far from being boring, the Germans have a very bohemian and libertarian attitude to life, and love to get smashed and have a ball, the bars in Berlin are 24 hour, the rents are cheaper, and despite all the cliches, people work shorter, not longer hours, and generally have a better quality of life.
I'm going to visit in summer and find out for myself.

i lived in germany for 6 years in total in the 80's and the 90's while i was in the forces. they are a bunch of boring bastards with a weird sense of humour (and thats rich coming from someone in my job, believe me !!)
they recycle rubbish to the tune of about 8 dustbins per house, cant hang out washing on a sunday, cant mow your lawn on a sunday.....how boring is that.
you cant tackle them during football matches cos they writhe around on the floor......boring.
the only thing they do like to do is booze, and they do that quite well, beer and sausages during half time at a football match, even when you are playing !!! ..... now thats not boring !!

Let me just say I wasn't in any way bothered by the "boring Germans" comment, but you can bet somebody will have been, and I'll be very surprised if somebody didn't have words with Maloney about it.

People who know Maloney, know that he is blunt and straight talking. (maybe this is how he makes up for his small size a Napoleon complex)
A lot of the comments on here I would say are taken out of contex.
Yes he was critical of Skelton but his scoring was more accurate with the judges than any of the other TV yes man even Bunce said that about Maloney's scoring.
But he did finish his comments by saying that Skelton put on a brave and honest performance and was probabaly the best heavy in Britain apart from an inform Danny Williams. (also said that allegedly had done a great job getting Skelton a World Title Shot)
I belive Maloney was only saying what everyone was thinking and afraid to say.
I agree with a couple of posts on here that it makes a change to have someone not reading from the pre typed sheet.
With regards to the Germans he was making a point that they were not passionate about sporting events and this came across on TV.
The few fans from Bedford made more noise than the home fans.
Love or hate the midget in the union jack suit it is good to have someone who is not afraid to tell it how it is.
Does anyone really know what happened between the brothers Maloney or were fat face Eugene has gone.

Didn't see Maloney's offerings, but i'm not sure he could of actaully been overly negative about Skelton's chances, because Matt didn't stand ANY chance of winning. He didn't win, so Maloney was right ! He called it.

Better Maloney saying he has no chance than saying he has a great chance.
Thought it was funny Setanta putting Bunce and Maloney together, after their live conflict on the Hatton-Castillo show. Maloney said back then that Bunce "should give up commentating."

I thought Bunce made matters worse when he put his head in his hands at Maloney's comment about the Germans.

yes...instead of the 'pink' ball that his head normally looks like, he actually was advertising a 'red ball' that night.
nice to see someone beating the krauts to the sunbeds !!

When i was on my travels i met alot of German people, nice as pie.
Three things i learnt.
1 German blokes can be a bit odd, but are fun
2 they like a drink
3 German women are dirty
can't see the faults there

Maloney's comments weren't as offensive as Ron Atkinson's a few years ago, but him calling anyone boring is the pot calling the kettle black. Everytime Frank is on TV with those big massive bags under his eyes, he looks like he's going to slip into a coma. At least his brother had a personality.

Frank gave an honest opinion, I dont think he was bitching - OK he picked the wrong winner in the RJJ/Trinidad fight but we all cock up at times and Jones hasnt looked that good lately.

I'm not knocking Frank on his boxing know-how and anyone can back the wrong fighter, but if his own family can't stand him something has gone wrong.
