Mercer, nearly 50 years old, is fighting Derrick Rossy in China on saturday night for a clutch of low budget belts.
Is Mercer actually trying to get himself killed?

He's nearly 47.
He's coming off a win. I've no idea how good he looked or how good the opponent is though.

Bot of an odd show this one, Its on at The Venetian in Macau, which is i think the biggest Casino in the world.
Therefore they have tried bring sports to the venue, so far NBA teams Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic have played basketball, and in tennis Federer and Sampras played against each other last year.
These of course are top level sports stars, but for boxing we have an aged ex champ in Mercer versus a not going to make it prospect in Derric Rossy.
So far ticket sells have been very poor, its going to take a big fight to get the high rollers out of the casino.

Why stop there, let's have Mercer v McCall, fight to the death.
Winner gets the winner of Holyfield v Foreman II, then the winner takes on a surprise comebacking Earnie Shavers.

Derrick Rossy is one of the few people Eddie Chambers was actually able to stop.

Mccall though can still fight to a degree, despite his lifestyle, I actually think that the safest place for Mccall is in the ring, on the other hand Mercer is more or less just a walking punchbag now and is going to end up on his heels if he keeps fighting....

I remember seeing a couple of early Derrick Rossy fights including his win over Shannon Miller and thought he looked one of the best of a bad bunch of American prospects. Of course Chambers got rid of him and that was the end of that, the hopes and dreams of the nation were rested in the safe gloves of Kev Johnson and Chris Arreola!
