As in - which ref stepped in to soon and what fight?


Better to step in too soon than too late - but what was the worst stoppage you have ever seen?

Calzaghe v Manfredo....I know manfredo was cacking himself but the fight was stopped way too early for a world title fight!!!

Calzaghe-Mitchell was a bit poor too.

I thought the ref did the right thing in that fight.

He must have realised that Manfredo was a joke that had no business being in the ring with Calzaghe & he subconsciously stepped in as soon as he could. :)

I agree Calzaghe-Manfredo was poor although disagree about Mitchell.

Lewis-Klitschko was a strange one in that the cut wasn't worse at the time of stoppage than it had been a couple of rounds earlier.

You could make case for Tyson-Ruddock, although IMO Ruddock would have been out of there within a few more shots.

Lewis-McCall is another that I think could be mentioned but for me Lewis' legs were gone.

A the time it did look dreadful - the light was flashing behind Taylor to indicate that the round was in its last ten seconds and the Philidelphian's fashier combos had caught the eye over Chavez's less visually impressive but more damaging shots.

In retrospect the stoppage was the right one - Taylor has a broken orbital socket and had swallowed 2 pints of his own blood. His subsequent performances, despite winning a welterweight strap, would never again reach the lofty heights of his pre-Chavez form.

This was the fight that made me a commited boxing fan: just an awesome fight.

calzaghe-manfredo - ridiculously early

mayorga-forrest - crap instruction from the ref.

corrales-gainer - truly awful from nady.

Harrison vs Bonin was pretty poor.

Tyson vs Rudduck wasn't the best either.

Tremendous call on Clay vs Liston 2.... The only reason I am adamant nothing fishy was going one (that at least Liston was aware of) was cause he was up and still trying when the fight got stopped.

I always thought that was stopped too soon, considering he was up, with his hands up, looking at the ref. And then just two months later Bowe was floored much heavier by Holyfield, was wobblier when he got up, was allowed to continue and went on to win the fight.

Jackson Asiku v Marc Callahan for commonwealth feather title, ok callaghan up in weight but for a title fight top of bill that stoppage was bad for the paying public, callaghan was down for count of 4 at the bell for end of round, wasnt in a bad way, he wouldnt of won but seen alot worse who alowed to continue

Walcott's performance in the Ali v Liston rematch, I think it was Walcott was pretty poor - the fight recommenced then was stopped.

Poor handling you have to say.

But in recent memory the Manfredo fight was the joke.

I also thought Lockett v Monaghan II was early, Moneghan was blocking the shots, had his hands up on the ropes and it was stopped.

It is a fight.

Lockett would have won but...

Pryce v Small (I know Small was underfire, but it was an even fight until then and Small hadn't gone down)

Calzaghe v Manfredo (Manfredo was way out of his depth, but couldn't the referee warn Manfredo for his refusal to throw any punches before stopping it?)

Magee v Bosworth (I think it was a jab that was landed which was enough for the referee to step in and wave it off. Although it has to be said Bosworth was getting a boxing lesson)

Best decision for a referee not to stop a fight........?

Yes, but I think the point was that the referee allowed it to go on because he wanted to give th ecorner time to get the cuts under control, and at the time of the stoppage it had become clear that they were not going to be able to do so. Hate to say it because I know Lennox isn't so popular round these parts, but the referee saved Klitschko from taking a horrible pasting that night!

A bad one for me was Paul Williams against Santos Pakau ... another Joe Cortez off-night.

Williams just bashed the fella up as he liked - round after round ... very horrible to watch :(

Yes it was an even fight, possibly Small was a point or two ahead, but it's all about the timing. Pryce had the momentum and Small looked spent - he didn't look to come back from that in a 12-rounder, when he'd never been past 8 before.
