Carl Froch VS The World.....

On the fifteenth of March, Carl 'The Cobra' Froch steps up to the plate once again in what could prove his sternest test to date.

The man in the opposite corner will be the unbeaten Russian Dennis Inkin - a man who defeated Froch as an amateur but not before being heavily dropped in the closing stages of the bout.

Others may disagree but I have no doubt that Froch is of world-class pedigree. He has swept aside everyone they've put in font of him and hasn't seemed fazed by the gradual step up in class. If anything his recent performances hint at a much improved fighter than the one who was given all manner of problems by Charles Adamu back in 2004.

If he gets past Inkin, what next for the Nottingham born bruiser?
For the last 3 years he has developed a cold fascination with Joe Calzaghe, it is a contest that he is clearly confident of winning. Calzaghe however has an appointment with Bernard Hopkins in America which by his own admission could be the last fight of his career. So it seems like Froch will have to look elsewhere for title glory.
The only others belts available in the SM division are the IBF & WBA (regular) held by Lucian Bute & Anthony Mundine respectively.

As things stand, Froch's greatest hope lies with the former as he is ranked no 3 with the IBF, only Vitali Tsypko stands between him and a mandatory challenge.
Rather oddly, he isn't even included in the WBA's current top fifteen so barring the unlikely eventuallity that Mundine generously decides to make a voluntary defence against Froch, it's a title that for the foreseeable future is beyond his material grasp.

His options seem limited at the moment, which prompts me to throw out a few questions.

The first and most relevant question is; since Bute is the only champion remotely in striking distance (forgive the pun) I ask, is Carl Froch good enough to wrest the IBF crown away from him?

To be honest I don't know very much about Bute, the only common opponent he shares with Froch is Sergey Tatevosyan. Froch took care of business in two rounds but Bute had to make do with a unanimous decision. That isn't necessarily an accurate measuring stick of their comparative ability though. Tatevosyan's trainers hinted that the twelve torrid rounds spent with Bute effectively finished him as a competitive force.

A few more questions of a disposable nature.

Has Carl Froch left it a bit late for the superstardom he so obviously craves?
As promising as he is, an awful lot of his time seems to be spent on the sidelines recuperating from injury. Against Reid I thought that there were a few signs that his knee was still giving him trouble.

Carl Froch VS..........

Clinton Woods?

Joe Calzaghe?

Enzo Macarinelli?

Mikkel Kessler?

Chad Dawson?

Kelly Pavlik?

And finally a mirror match VS a doppleganger. :box:

Mundine would be interesting, just imagine the verbal sparring let alone the fight.

Miranda would also be entertaining and I'd assume they could get US TV and maybe even the fight in America.

Hopefully he stays away from Kessler unless the money is just too good, apart from that I think most other fighters would be either winnable or carry a good enough reward to be worth taking.

My gut feeling is that Froch would dissect Miranda and might just be able to out Pavlik, Kelly Pavlik.
Bute I can't say one way or the other, but I'm fairly certain that Froch's lazy left would be suicide VS Kessler who arguably has the best straight right hand in the division.

I think froch is also mandetory for the EBU title aswell so my feeling is that he'll probably fight Christian Sanavia for that belt while he's waiting for the WBC to get there fingures out of there arse.

I think he just needs to stay active and keep racking up the wins, then he'll get the shots he deserves for the titles when and if Joe vacates them.

Woods - Froch very close UD
Calzaghe - Calzaghe very wide UD
Maccarinelli - Serious? Ok Maccarinelli stoppage in 3
Kessler - Kessler UD
Dawson - Dawson UD
Pavlik - Froch in 8
Mundane - Mundane UD, bad matchup for Carl

I think Kessler will be the best bet for a top scalp

Bute-Froch isn't going to happen unless Froch becomes the mandatory challenger of Bute. That is not possible until 2009. Not to mention the IBF might not be very incline to offer Froch a title eliminator after he already turned down one against Bute last summer. lol

Let's be serious. Bute won't go to the UK to defend his title in a voluntary defense against Froch and Froch won't come to Montreal. Both promoters will try to keep their undefeated fighters away from each other as long as possible unless there is a lot of money on the table and neither Carl or Lucian brings money to the table.

Red Med, every country has its loonies. I don't think Inkin will KO Froch inside of 8 though.

Kessler is the only guy who beats Froch at super middle.

I like Carl Froch as a fighter; he has fast hands, decent boxing ability, and deceptive power. I think he has the potential to be World class, but I think he is somewhere between the prospect and contender level. He is clearly not ready for the likes of Calzaghe or Dawson right now, and Pavlik would take his head off. I believe at this stage Froch would be competitive with Woods, Inkin, and Bute. He is at that level, but I still believe Carl is at least a year or two and a couple of fights away from challenging the elite. I think he beats Mundine and Allan Green and with Miranda, who knows??!!

How very dare you!!

Time will tell how good Carl is, hopefully he can get a succession of BIG fights after hes disposed of Red Dennis.

Bring on Kessler and Bute (preferrably JC though)

To be honest I really do hope Carl Froch does well on ITV and gets the KO against Inkin - He could become a household name like Amir Khan if he does.
