Olusegun v Wright

Should be a good fight tonight, I've liked the looks of Olusegun from the times I've seen him, can't see Wright stopping him in his path.

I've just got home, i cant believe no one here has been talking about this fight all night. Olusegun and Wright are two of the most underated boxers in this country and it was a shame one of them had to lose but i dont think there were many arguments with the decision (Olusegun UD). Wright showed the same problems that have cost him in the past by dropping his workrate in the middle rounds when it was a 50/50 fight and it sounds like he might be finished now.

Michael Hunter looked very poor and barely scraped a decision on the undercard. He had his (valid) excuses though and sounded confident for the future at super bantam.

Yeah, looks like you need to have Haye, Calzaghe, or Hatton in the topic title to get people interested by looking at the top 10 threads on this page, shame really.

It was a fight of 2 halves, but I expect better showings from Olusegun in the future

At the moment I'm a very mainstream boxing fan, I admit. Add Khan, Lee, Duddy and probably a few others and I might discuss, but I've not seen Olusegun or Wright before. :(

It was only a year ago and Hunter's people said he was struggling to make Super Bantam? :-?

Ajose Is terrible, don't see the fuss In him at world level, Witter and Hatton would Ko him. He was dancing and dropping his hands but was taking jabs and hooks still.

If Wright had kept the pressure up with the jab and kept Ajose on the backfoot he could of won that.

Why dance and throw flurries when your going to tire and hold? Plus he was taking alot of hooks and jabs.

Decent enough fight, with some crackng stuff on the undercard, but bloody hell, what a sh1te venue. No parking- it was jam packed full (didn't it ocur to them that people would be comign in cars). Also lack of crowd control meant that everyone just stood at the front from the main event, totally blocking the seats.

The crowd were well behaved, but if something had kicked off there would have been real trouble- no security at all.

Well- the action- main event was decent enough, back lacked anything that would make me class it as gripping.

Some really well matched stuff on the undercard, which is good to see- Truscote V that French guy was really energetic. Looks like Matthew Ellis is finshed, after a body punch caused him to retire. I remember when he was being touted as the next big thing- James Bond- but heck, that was over 10 years ago!

Not a single knock down all night (maybe in the last 2 fights, I didn't catch them.)

From the last 2 fights, it's clear Ajose isn't going above Commonwealth level. He's raw, unpolished and like Max M says, his technique is very bad. Swinging, lunging, holding, moving without purpose. I thought he really had something stopping Pryce and Numbembe. Maybe it's because he hasn' developed properly because British fighters have ducked him. Maybe he just got Pryce and Numbembe at the right time.

Regardless, Colin Lynes would give him a boxing lesson. Would love to see Lynes-Olusegun.

If Ajose had looked good, he might have justified getting a shot at Witter whose opponent has pulled out (D Hopkins).

Based on last night's showing I'd argue the opposite - Olusegun was made to look extremely over-rated.

Yeah, looking like Ajose's early form flattered him a bit. Neither Bradley Pryce (especially at the time) or Ali Nuumbembe are the most consistent fighters. Ali looked good beating Anderson and should have had the nod vs Barnes - but neither opponent have set the world alight since.

Olusugen looked average vs Gary Reid, and looked worse vs Nigel Wright.

Think Colin Lynes would have him, quite comfortably.

Bit dissapointed with Wright, who I rated highly when he was coming through. A bit more variety and he would have won.

Hunter looked shot I must say - but it could have just been an off night - He's 29 and hasn't had a tremendously tough career - so really he shouldn't be shot. Alarming that he is blaming the weight.

Impressed with Chris Burton, that was a good win - time for Ellis to retire mind.

A bit harsh on Hunter, he's been out of action for 11 months and his mum died five weeks ago.

Ajose thinks he's a lot better than he is. He's a bit erratic to say the least, what with all the wild shots and dancing. Wright would have won if he'd just continued the steady workrate he showed in the first half of the fight.

Enjoyed watching Truscott again. He had a tough learning fight. Quite entertaining and he has some style.

Maybe Ajose has been watching too many Ali or Roy Jones Jr fights.

He was still eating jabs and hooks while dropping his hands lunging forward with flurries. Pryce the way he fought Small should beat him.

Fight of the night- and all credit to his French opponent for making a real go of it.

I can see ajose being booked again for a Friday Night Fight soon- I doubt people will be "scared" to fight him. He could give someone a good run, for sure.

Got to be impressed with 'Hightower' - a big fellar with quickish hands, good variety AND body punches. You dont see that very often in a British heavy these days.

A few said his whiskers arent the best, that could be a crucial missing part of the jigsaw as he moves up in class.

As always Truscott was excelent to watch, he is a real smooth, classy operator.

Yeah, maybe I was harsh - hope I am, hope it was an off night.

Olusugan never was world class, it was just people getting carried away after he'd beaten a couple of good domestic fighters. The same is true of Tshifhiwa Munyai.

I think Munyai was better, but has gone badly off the boil. He beat Power twice, and beat a prime vesion of Haskins, so in 2 of 3 fights the opponents were prepared knowing what they were in against. Asiku looked the best of the African fighters in the UK.

I wouldn't mind seeing Munyai in against the guy who beat Issac Ward for the Commonwealth Super Bantam title... he's been largely forgotton about since that impressive display.

Jackson Asiku was my favourite of the 4 - but the one shown to lose when he steps up.

I think Jackson would have gotten better, as his losses were very close, at a very early part of his career.

twice in a row for Olusegun that he's tried to impress and come off looking like a showoff who didn't learn the basics. Vs Nigel Wright and Gary Reid. For a man who has stopped the Commonwealth champs of the welter and light middle divisions, Ajose has looked a bit small and weedy, with little impact in his flailing shots.

Think Witter should fight Olusegun with Jr's US fight now off. It would be acceptable as a title defense and would help bust the myth of Olusegun, (a myth I have helped perpetuate) as boxing's most feared.

very poor performance from olusegun on friday.

didn't get to grips with wright's style well at all in the early going.

he dug in though and got the win. :box:

i still think olusegun is capable of mixing with the world top 10.

just not sure he'd win on that evidence now.

still wouldn't mind seeing him in with witter though.

Witter would spark Ajose out within 3 rounds.
