This article talks about the possiblilty of Khan fighting Ree's towards the end of 2008.

Can't see it myself. Altough Khan has performed well he is still some way off Ree's level and will be for quite some time imo. Ive no doubt he could do it in the future but the end of 2008 seems crazy

Well, I think Khan beats Rees if they fight at the end of 2008. Khan is making progress all the time. Ok, he may have not had the stiffest opposition, but he's learning all the time.

I reckon Amir's speed will be too much for Rees. Rees hasn't been anywhere near as active as Khan, not fighting since he won the WBA title in July 2007. That cannot have helped at all.

Not too sure what Rees has that would beat Khan to be honest. Khan's footwork, power and workrate will mean Rees will find it a hell of a lot harder to get close to him as he did M'Baye and I can't see him outworking Amir.

This fight was always on the cards IMO, wonder if they'll still fight if Kotelnik nicks the belt off him

It could happen, as no doubt the ultra confident Khan backers, who see him as the 2nd coming of sugar Ray, will be pushing FW to deliver a world title ASAP.

Frank has posted this on his website, so it might be a bit more than the usual BS hype. And he'll see this as a little easier (and cheaper) to make than luring some of the more dangerous over seas champs here.
And there aren't too many easy pickings at 135.

He handed Naz a nice easy shot at one of his own fighters in Steve Robinson. This looks a similar situation.

Rees could beat him, but he's not a huge puncher and Khan would be the bigger man in there.

You could be right, but Khan's team will doubtfully put him in with someone like Ree's at this stage in his carear imo. 2008 seems too early to take that risk. I'd say mid to late 2009 before Khan steps up to light welter and even then Id expect him to be facing lower quality opposition in at least one fight at that weight first.

Rees is not that proven himself. He was fighting nothing fights and then was lucky enough to be up against one of the most lacklustre world title defences I have ever seen. M'Baye's effort made Johnny Nelson look entertaining! I can't see him beating Kotelnik in all honesty, take away the M'Baye win which was pretty easy for him and he has done nothing to suggest he can IMO.

Incredible paralells really with the Asian hot prospect moving up one weight to take on the Welsh over-acheiver!

Can't believe Kotelnik Is being overrated either, he was as lacklusture as M'Baye.

Rees could outwork Kotelnik and he Is the fast fighter. Kotelnik has nothing other than his tight defence and coming forward.

Good post, don't forget outside of M'Baye, Khan has the far better record out of the two. Can't understand why anyone would doubt Amir being ready for Rees. Would probably not look all that different from the St Clair fight if Rees proves himself to take a shot as well as Gairy has done

Surely he's got a harder left hook than Limmond?

Mbayes defence v Rees was one of the most suspicious performances by a boxer since the days of Frankie Carbo & The Mob.

Rees Is faster and has more stamina than St Clair and don't just ponder on his feet standing there to be a target.

Khan needs to defend against right hands before going for a title, since Limond, all he's done Is keep his hands up.

Yep agree, I feel khan needs a few more fights at the fringes before he joins the big dogs on the porch. At the moment he is still a puppy and I think his team need to drill that into him.

I do think the Khan could well be a three weight world champion, but in my lowly opinion as a boxing fan he seems to be ruling his career a little too much at this stage, someone has to bring him down to earth from within his own team or else an opponent might do it.

Until I see Khan get hit by a decent PUNCHER at Lightweight, I will always think he is more likely to be KO'd by 1 Decent punch than any of the top Lightweights.

Skillwise he is getting much better and is fast, but all that mean nothing if you can not take it back.
