HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING? - HAS HATTON KILLED SOMEONE!!!!??

Here's the deal - Ricky is much loved beats a pfp hall of famer in Kosta Tyszu, unifies against Maussa, fights at Welter (un natural weight), wins a world title, KO's Castillo and then fights the best fighter on the planet at a higher weight and loses!!

Definitely a case for hanging me thinks!!

Seriously, whats happened to people? All of a sudden just because Hatton won't fight Witter right now he is the devil incarnate.

If he fights someone of the ilk of a Lazcano then fine - I think he is due an easier fight after recent fights.

Dear me some people on here should be ashamed (especially if they happen to be British). Give the guy a break, so what he eats pies and drinks guiness, so what he won't (right now) fight the guy you want him to fight but to call him a bottler - please thats not even worthy of a response.

Ricky Hatton has done more for Boxing in this country than anyone in the last 10 years - people should be grateful for that rather than bashing him.

Whats next - if Calzaghe beats Hopkins are we going to stone his house because he won't fight Froch!!!

Listen - Froch and Witter are good fighters but if Joe and Ricky choose not to fight them especially after Lacy, Kessler, Mayweather etc etc than good luck to them

Some people need to get a life me thinks

PS. Calzaghe W12 Hopkins, Hatton KO 8 Witter

Amidst all the hyperbole he tries to generate for himself, he's yet to beat a world-class fighter in their prime. Time will tell...

Easy to wise after both events STP!! - prior to the Kosta and Castillo fights people were tipping Hatton lose and lose royally. After he stops them both people use the hindsight card and run down those wins.

Shocking

Hatton is everything good about the sport right now

give him a break

I think the fact that Hatton only has a few fights left in him, according to himself and his trainer, and seems intent on paydays rather than fighting his opposition at 140, is what has caused the backlash.

Now he has cashed in against Mayweather, he should be looking for legacy fights, rather than cash ins against either easy opponents, or marquee names he cannot beat.

I do believe he should fight Witter, simple as. Witter is a rival, is from the same country, is a belt holder, and is clearly one of the best at 140. It's time to shut him up rather than continually make excuses why he won't fight him.

The best way to shut up a loud mouthed rival is to batter them. Hell, even Roy Jones did it!

LMAO Terry!!

Can you belive some of the rubbish on here??

Probably the same people who hated Lennox Lewis, Chris Eubank, Naz and the same people who will in 6 months slag off David Haye because he won't fight Klitschko!!

Fair enough James - but he does not deserve all the ribbish that people have spouted on here!!

I agree Witter is the best fight now but surely Ricky deserves an easier fight as a build up.

If Hatton retires and never fights Junior then yes I will be disappointed, however its not the end of the world is it? The guy has created more boxing fans than anyone bar Naz in he last 10 years

Thats surely good enough?

Serious question - did Team Hatton scalp a load of tickets for the Mayweather fight?

Lazcano - W KO 6
Witter - W Ko 8
De La Hoya L P12

Then goodnight Charlie for me - when he does go, he will be a huge miss!!

People should appreciate what he is and what he has done rather than run him down continually

Except that the point is he's not said he won't fight Witter. He just won't fight him in his next fight which is what gets on my tits with people on here. Please see the below article and EVERYONE read out the following loudly when they do:

Ray Hatton ruled out Junior Witter being his son's next opponent but said that fight was likely at "some stage".

Thankfully he didn't hijack the phonelines for Maussa, Collazo and Urango, who all brought veritable armies of support with them to their fights with Hatton.

Yeah right, we can take what the Hatton's say as gospel then can we?

Like when Ricky said 'It's in me contract to fight Junior.'

Wake up mate.

I can't remember anyone tipping Castillo to win. Did you see his previous fight?

Precisely, I certainly didn't think Castillo would win, even before I saw him fight Ngoudjo, he was a lightweight moving up in weight to fight the top 140 lb fighter in the world.

I'm with Wrists on this one.

Or course it would be good if Hatton fought Witter but such is life - the way people go on you would think he had never fought a decent opponent in his career.

The bile is quite staggering at times....

I think someone, possibly Terry or yourself, said precisely what I thought; provided he fights Junior at some time none of us should have a problem with it.

If he doesn't fight him within his 5 fights, people can moan all they want. But right now they have no foundation for it and my suspicion for all this Hatton bashing actually boils down to Team Hatton making a lot of money from the Mayweather tickets, no his refusal to fight Witter next.

There's at least 3 threads on this subject now on British Boxing. Quite frankly, there must be better/more interesting/newer subjects to discuss, than this all the time. Since December I've noticed a lot less topics on new talent, or even general issues, it's just "Why won't Hatton fight Witter. Why won't Hatton fight Witter. Why won't Hatton fight Witter.".

Aren't you bored?

Is this how British Boxing is gonna be until they meet??!?!

If so, I don't wanna be part of this forum. At least on Current Scene they troll (I'm not calling you a troll James) about more than just one subject.

Just like when Witter fought bergman ( check out who Fwank out Hatton in with on the same bill) and when he fought Zab, it was all about putting Witter away. Pinto? - where is he now? - nowhere.

Witter had the certificate to PROVE he was injured!

I don't know. Phone Ray Hatton as I don't have his number or know him. I asked the question to Graham and his reposnse went on BBN.
Ian, for what it's worth, Thom Hauser reported on it on S/O in Jan so have a butchers on there.

I'm trying not to comment on this subject, BUT.....

....Hattons had a very good career, but he point blank refuses to fight his arch-rival in what would be the BIGGEST All-British fight of All-Times. Thats what pisses me off, if Hatton thought he had a good chance against Witter then he would have fought him and shut him up a long time ago. I'm not particularly a massive Witter or Hatton fan, but I am a massive fan of British Boxing and this (I'm trying not to use the word cowardice) is damaging to the sport over here and reminds of days that I thought had passed.

Hattons career has been very impressive*, but if he doesn't fight Witter it should hang over his career like a dark and murky cloud. His refusal to fight Witter has massively changed my opinion of him.

*although he has had far more luxuries than Witter in terms of what opponents he can fight and when he takes the fight. Hatton has had the silver spoon treatment whilst Witter has lived off scraps (and hes still got to the top). I wonder how Rickys and Juniors career would have turned out if the opportunities were reversed??? I bet a pound to a penny we would have seen Witter-Hatton by now

Sorry, but I have no sympathy for Junior and don't by into him being hard done by. He had an opportunity on HBO against Zab Judah to put on a performance, which I believe would've made him a star, possibly bigger than Ricky, and he ran for 12 rounds.

Wasn't that the Showtime network?

And didn't Junior take the fight on a few weeks notice? And wasn't Junior a novice pro at the time? And didn't Junior improve a lot after that loss, setting down on shots more and switching into an attacking counter-puncher?
