Yeah, what happend to Barrett - he seemed to be finding a level and on the fringe of a British title level - then dissapeared.

Same for a lot of names mentioned- they havn't bombed as a pro, they just didn't make the very top.

Costello is a good shout - he was meant to be the mutt's nutts.

Although he didn’t bomb as such – winning the Commonwealth and WBC International titles – Coventry’s Dean Pithie could have achieved a lot more than he did.

Pithie was a brilliant amateur. He beat Naseem Hamed, fought at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, although didn’t come home with a medal, and won an ABA championship at featherweight whilst with Willenhall ABC. He also won a Junior ABA title in 1990.

Dean was easily one of my favourite fighters when I was growing up. I remember going to see him fight at the Skydome and Ryton Complex in Coventry loads of times. I also remember being in a state of shock when Afif Djelti gave him a beating, taking him apart with body shots.

I was there when he battered then-unbeaten Paul Griffin – being given the allegedly hype treatment after winning a medal at the European amateurs – in Telford on one of the Richie Woodhall world title undercard's (think it was when he won the WBC belt against Malinga).

He beat some very tidy names in his pro career and its often forgot that he beat Mzonke Fana, who would go on to lift the IBF title many years later.

The last i heard of him, and this was from Richie Evatt, he was working as a forklift truck driver in a factory. Evatt also told me that Pithie still has a bit of a problem with the devil’s dandruff.

I know he beat Morales but I expected a lot more from Zahir Raheem in his career.

You have to say Audley, and Carruth....

Jamie Arthur won a commonwealth gold , but 2 stoppage defeats cut his career short.

But he's coming back next month, so may not be the end of the story.

I don't think Michael Carruth was ever in love with the pro game, he never seemed that interested in it.

The guy he fought for the WBO title Michael Loewe, is he now a rally driver?
