Hatton says he will NEVER fight Witter

Not he won't fight him YET, as all the Hatton fanboys are so quick to point out. He will NEVER fight Witter. It's in the last sentence of this article:

Disgracefu. Haye-Mac fight is going to show why these kind of fights are so important. Ricky always has a different excuse. Maybe he'll be as good a promoter as Warren, in that he knows which tasty fights to avoid!

He will never rival Warren.

Hatton is going into promotion to make money, same as everyone else did.

If I were Warren I would find it quite galling, given that Warren got him a fight on home soil against Tszyu, and made him a big star in this country, and then got dropped.

The implication that Warren somehow didn't do right by him seems pretty unfair from where I am sitting, especially as Hatton said he left Warren so he could make more money elsewhere, rather than any form of ill treatment.

Fair enough if you want to make money, but Warren did alright by Ricky and got him to where he could go to America and make big money.

Hmm, it doesn't actually quote him Oliver, does it. I'd be happier with a quote, like BBC SPORT:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7151665.stm

It just blurts it out at the end instead. Plus it's the Daily Mail!

by jamesmcdonnell
I noticed that too. It's not in quotation marks, which means it's probably infered from remarks elsewhere. Poor writing.

It was probably a Press Association or Reuters articles which was edited down to fit in the allocated space in the newspaper. PA and Reuters write at great length and then the papers can use as much or as little as they like of it. I suspect that point was expanded on, with quotes, but in this version was left on the cutting room floor.

Shame as I'd have believed it if it was in quotations. Even for the Mail's standards.

"That's very rare in boxing. I have had the misfortune to have had quite bad dealings with promoters."
Yep, earning a fortune for some pretty easy fights building up a massive fanbase off the back of popular local fighters and the like and getting a shot against the champion on home soil must have been tough on poor old Ricky. Those Don King heavyweights back in the 80's never knew how good they had it

Ricky has worked bloody hard to get where he is and his natural talent is of course a major ingredient, but he wouldn't be where he is without Warren.

Oh and we knew he was never going to fight Witter

What a wanker Hatton is if he doesn't fight JW (which looks the case), he knows Witter will spark him.

Ricky Hatton may as well have said "Fcuk British Boxing, fcuk British Boxing fans, fcuk repaying British Boxings fans for travelling halfway round the world in their thousands to support me.... I'm not going to fight Witter because he'll beat me and I won't earn £10m as compensation"......
"Ricky Hatton man of the people"

Are (can) the Hatton fans going to defend his stance not avoid his arch-rival?

I've NEVER said his about a British boxer in an international contest, but if Ricky continues to refuse to fight JW then I hope he gets KTFO (again) next time out!!!

Avoiding your arch-rival is the cardinal sin in boxing and Hatton is breaking it with a smile on his face and a 2 fingered salute to the sport over here. I pray that his avoidance of Junior is how he is pimarily remembered, it's certainly how I'll remember him in years to come.

Hattons a disgrace if he doesn't take the fight! Thank God we've got fighters like Haye and Macca about... "at least some dogs have still got teeth"

Yep, we really need those quote marks, because Hatton has otherwise given us every reason to believe he WILL fight Witter. Right?

Absolutely, but is it definitely from them? A quote would have been nice though mate, we love a good quote :D

Can we leave Witter alone for a bit now, it's really boring....he's not worth the effort lads. Let's talk about the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre.

It is not everyday I agree with our Carrott Topped Brethren, but Chambers has it spot on.

The thing is - most of \Hattons fans can not READ and have no idea what is put in the press.

In my book, Hatton is a tosser.

I find the Witter-Hatton subject really interesting and I think as many people as possible should be aware of it, however I find Ricky Hattons avoidance of Junior intensely boring.

I'll make a deal, I'll stop writing about this avoidance situation if Ricky fights Junior Witter

I agree. As mentioned before, you quote someone and it's believable.

I could write exactly the same artical, then put that my Dad was Charlton Heston. Would you believe it, no?!

Get the quotes and I'll hold my hands up and say he's avoiding him (don't wanna tax myself), but until then I don't believe.

Seeing is believing people. Make it so!

Have you got link Terry I can't find them.

Emerson Re: "Seeing is believing people", the fight's been on offer to Hatton numerous times, we've all been witness to it over the past 7 years, in this case "Not seeing is believing"

Why are you surprised he won't fight Witter ever? I've been telling you that for years. £10m to get beat by PBF is one thing but he will see much less than that to get beaten and humiliated by Witter. At least Eubank had the balls to admit he would never fight Herol Graham.

Hatton will soon do his cash in promoting and run for the hills, he couldn't handle the long haul or seeing his fortune dwindle. How does he feel he will succeed in promoting when his own fathers ethics were "They'll turn out to see Ricky fight Mickey Mouse at the MEN, so why take a risk?"

How will he respond to a fighter asks him for £100k extra to fight a last minute opponent five grades less than the original one or when he pays someone millions, takes them to the top of the hill and then gets royally get's fucked?

Rumour has it the 'more money' he left Warren for has not even been paid to him by his "We are close friends, working class people cut from the same cloth" former promoter who he now alledges owes him a couple of Mill?

Be interesting to see how many turn out to see his next fight after the bad taste left in many mouths after the Vegas ticket fiasco and the fact he has now said he will never fight Witter. What is there to aim for, what hope do his fans have now to justify lining his pockets more? They followed him to Tszyu, they followed him to Vegas - got stiffed by him and his Dad for tickets, he lost badly, embarrasingly - so now where? Only Witter will satisfy them and without that I don't think they will stump up anymore - Naz-Barerra-Empty Hall scenario, remember. Wembley or Eastlands? Can't see it myself, the bubble may have burst and only Witter will reignite it.

As for managing Khan, that's interesting as when Khan came on the scene the mood of the Hatton clan appeared to turn very green indeed around the rising star.

Let's see how he manages and promotes his brother and his mate Macklin before unleashing his 'skills' on another fighter. To-date, Matthew has hardly excelled has he and Macklins had the shit knocked out of him in the Gym fopr free without even a fight on the undercard to compensate?

Still he got a free tracksuit and a trip to Vegas I suppose!
