Hatton's "Thank You" fight also a goodbye?

What do you think? I get the impression that he'll have a home fight, as planned, and then call it a day. From the interviews etc, he just seems to have lost his focus. Also, I think he wll go down now in history as a fighter who simply wasn't quite as good as we all thought he once was. No disrepect to him, but the more you puff a ballon, the louder the bang is when it bursts.

I agree.
I think Hatton has been on the slide since as far back as Maussa - His peak could of even been pre-tszyu.
His next fight appears to be a soft one - What comes after that one is anyone's guess.

I think there is too much money to be made for him to call it a day. I doubt his next fight will be his last.

When you say he 'wasn't as good as we all thought' I really must pick you up on that.
Roll back 3/4 years - you would have struggled to find
anyone outside of Billy Graham who would have said Hatton would win 3 world titles at 2 different weights including wins over P4P rated fighters (alright one) and only losing to an all-time great.
What I'm saying is, Hatton turned out to be much better than I thought he was watching him in all sorts of trouble and nearly stopped by Eamon Magee.
As has been pointed out on other threads, this sentiment that Hatton has now somehow been 'exposed' and 'failed' is - in my opinion - utter bollocks.

By "Wasn't as good as we all though" I mean that he didn't live up to the hype surrounding him before the Mayweather fight. Papers were talking about him being the best British fighter of all time etc.
I wasn't suggesting he was a failure, or had been exposed. But a lot of people were talking , and thinking, that he really was one of the best ever.
His performance in that fight, and his attitude after, have unfortunatly diminished his status as "potentially the best British Fighter of all time."
To cement his status as an all time British Great- yeah, maybe even one of out best ever, he really need to get back into it 100%- and in the first instance that should mean fighting Witter.

How come no-one really mentions Calzaghe MUST fight Clinton Woods in order to cement his greatest. Woods has done as much, if not more, in world class as Witter has.
Now, personally I think Wilde is untouchable as THE greatest Britain... and both Lewis' (Lennox and Ted Kid) are 2 and 3 in my eyes. However, beyond that there is a little gap (with Calzaghe closing with every fight) - to the likes of Joe, Buchannon, maybe Randy Turpin, Naz etc.
We have to remember that Floyd Mayweather isn't just the greatest fighter on the planet - he is also one of the greatest ever. I don't see anyone saying that Buchannon's performance vs Duran affected his legacy... and IMO Hatton looked closer to Mayweather's level, than Buchannon's was vs Duran.... and for me as masterful and brilliant Duran was, I think Mayweather is now in the same bracket - plus Hatton made sure he was up against it in every respect (weight, venue etc).
I don't think him being confident of a win (he never said it was going to be easy) should affect his legacy. I don't think some, rediculously bias, boxing experts making him favourite should either - people thought Floyd would fold cause he struggled vs Castillo... a long time ago, Floyd has improved, his hands are holding up better and he is more comfortable at the Welterweight limit than he was at Lightweight.
Lets see Witter fight and beat a world class opponent in the peak of his powers well before passing judgement that he is the second coming of Mayweather.... sure I'd love to see the fight, but there are other options equal or better for Hatton's legacy.

Where would you put Lynch in your list, stu?

To be honest, Floyd Mayweather is nowhere near his best. He admits this himself. His best weight was 135 and his best performances against Corrales and Gatti. That was half a decade ago. He's been a WBC champion for 10 years, starting at 130. He did not look near his best against Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah, and they'd been around for years and years. He didn't look near his best against Oscar, either, and he'd been around for years and years and years. Hatton was supposedly at his peak against Mayweather, and didn't really land a punch of any significance.

No offence to the bloke, but he's simply not as good as he or Billy says he is.

I always thought Hatton was/is what he is.
Good against a certain level of fighter - B Level and below.
Fouled KT to a stoppage, good win though.
Fought handpicked weakest World Champs!
Maussa - Urango Collazo.
Got MASHED down by PBF
Ran from Witter and became obsessed by money and contradictions abound whenever he talks.
Decent Euro level fighter - struggles on the fringes of world class.
Needs to outweigh his opponent by at least 14lbs on fight night or will struggle.
Bully.

Calzaghe and Woods - different divisions and will be until Calzaghe teps into the ring.
THERE IS NO BAD BLOOD OR DIRECT REASON FOR THEM TO FIGHT UNTIL JC GOES TO LIGHT HEAVY.
ONCE HE STEPS UP TO LT HEAVY - MAYBE THEY CAN FIGHT.
Its the weights.

Hatton is fat and well over weight for around 30 weeks of every year eating and drinking like it was the last supper!!! You just cant keep this up at his level and sooner or later this lifestyle will lead to poor performances. He has lost that bounce he once had and its not surprising. Ricky must have more than enough money so why go on. He will never be out of work, he has potential in TV or as a trainer. With his money he can do as he pleases. If I was him I would quit, or fight Witter as a final fight. Fighting Mayweather, ODH or Cotto would all be about money and losing again. If he does that then he is showing us he is just a greedy sod and money mad. His family want him to quit at 30 and thats this year. So what will he do. I dont think he has too many options, how do you follow up fighting PBF? There is only one fight (if you are British) but he doesnt fancy it. - How else can he get back his previously high status, beating Witter I think would do it. Hattons people said they would meet in January to decide what happens next, but so far we have heard nothing. Witter needs an opponent if Hopkins is off so why not go for it or retire.

British boxing is going through something of an upsurge at the moment and Hatton has played a part in that.
You have very short memories.

HATTON VS MAYWEATHER WAS THE BIGGEST CON ON THE BRITISH PUBLIC EVER!
The British Public tuned into bixing and I am glad, but ALL the non Boxing people I know feel that they were robbed, I TOD THEM HATTON HAD NO CHANVCE, but the bookies took their money after all thwe HYPE that Haton had a chance.
Once he is gone, CALZAGHE - Macc - Haye - Amir - Froch - Witter WOODS - etc etc , can fight the fights and fly the flag.
Hatton s a greedy money obsessed knob.
Peace out to the people!!

Well said, it seems to have went up a gear knocking a man when hes down.
I have had plenty of entertainment watching Hatton, fair play to him for fighting Mayweather at Welterweight when he could have stayed at 140 and kept winning and kept that O.
I'd like to see Witter and Hatton, but lets not forget Hatton fought a fighter a lot better than Witter in Floyd Mayweather.

Are you on drugs?
I would fight KLITSVHKO for $20M!
HATTONS MAIN GOAL WAS THE MONEY.
But he dodged - CORLEY - COTTO - WITTER and a few others, why? - th e money would not have cushioned the beatdown.
Wake up mate!

Dude - Us Brits have been building up and over-hyping our fighters for years. Just because the tabs got on the case and built up Hatton's chances that somehow makes him a bad person? Or was it because he said he will beat Mayweather?
Newsflash: Boxer says he can win fight. Bear shits in woods.
I heard exactly the same conversations (obviously no internet back then unless you were sitting in a darkened room in some remote US university) about people like Bruno and even Benn.
And what is so wrong about getting behind our fighters anyway?

Oh that was just a top of my head list - Lynch would be up there, not in the top 3 but probably ahead of some of those others that I mentioned.
Had he not pissed it away, I am sure he could have been in the top 3 at least.

I doubt it.. i think Hatton enjoys fighting.. i remember everyone thought Benn was a fraud and would quit after the Watson loss, and i remember everyone saying Benn would use Nardiello as a farewell match (and then Wembley as a farewell match, and then Malinga as a farewell match, and then Collins as a farewell match..) after the McClennan beating but he kept coming back again and again because he enjoyed fighting.. Hatton shouts with every punch on the bags and pads in the gym, he's a natural fighter and will carry on..

Out of those three names, Cotto is the only fighter who stands out. Corley, come on mate! you say I'm on drugs!
No matter what age Kostya was, he came off a good looking win against Mitchell, carried knockout power and was the number one light Welterweight when Hatton fought him. Ricky fought no where near that level before and went in against Tszyu when many thought he would get knocked out, that takes balls when he could have fought for another belt.
Its easy to say on an internet forum that you would fight Klitschko for 20 million

......it would be nice to see it!

....at least Hatton lasted 10 rounds for his pay day and believed he could win, how many would you last for you dream?
Boxers get paid, its a business as well as a sport
Ask De La Hoya and Mayweather why are they planning on fighting again for a second time.
Hatton is a very good fighter, how many British Boxers have ever reached the level that Ricky Hatton did? ......not too many, you don't get to were Hatton has in the sport of Boxing if you are not good.
Never say never to a fight with Witter, how many times have we heard this type of thing in Boxing.
Take a look at how many fighters lace on gloves and have the bottle to fight in the ring, never mind reach the level Ricky has.
Your 20 Million dollar fight against Klitschko sums up just what cloud your on mate

Having read the interview, I would say that the only fight Hatton could possibly train properly for is Witter.
It's the only fight where (for a number of reasons) he would fear / hate losing.
Anyone else and he'd be going thru the motions.
