Does Witter have a fight?
Posted: 20 Feb 2008, 10:10
A couple of weeks ago DHOPs pulled out of a fight with Witter. So now what? Does Witter have a replacement? Will DHOPs see sense and fight? Will Witter fight in 2008? What a farce
March 22nd ain't far away, so if its gonna be a semi-decent opponent he'll have to be named soon. Boxrec still has him down to fight D-Hop (means feck all I know).oliverfennell wrote:Hennessy was quoted in Boxing News as saying Witter WILL fight on that date and venue even if Hopkins doesn't.
I wonder if Hopkins is pulling a clever game of 'I know now I've agreed to the fight you need me so Im pulling out but I wont if you trebble my pay'Terry D wrote:I hear Hopkins is still in the frame. Hopkins' behaviour is pretty puzzling. Fight for the title and then buy a house!
I thought the same.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:I wonder if Hopkins is pulling a clever game of 'I know now I've agreed to the fight you need me so Im pulling out but I wont if you trebble my pay'Terry D wrote:I hear Hopkins is still in the frame. Think he also said he's not looking too hard for an opponent because he still has faith he'll be fighting D Hop.oliverfennell wrote:Hennessy was quoted in Boxing News as saying Witter WILL fight on that date and venue even if Hopkins doesn't.
remember the advert when the elephant whacked the smarmy smug kid in the face (albeit when he'd grown up) for his last rollo? No relevance there, just thought I'd add it in. Errrm... Hatton chicken rollos Witter.Terry D wrote:Probably being a bit like his uncle. I wouldn't even try to negotiate a Hopkins away from his last 'Rollo' to be honest.

Not Junior Fault!
Maybe, but surely he has some say in where his career is going, 2 defenses in 18 months so far.DG. wrote:Boxing.Gloves wrote:I wonder what bum they will put in with Witter...

I agree re: the defences, not his fault about D-Hop.Old bones Ian wrote:Maybe, but surely he has some say in where his career is going, 2 defenses in 18 months so far.DG. wrote:Boxing.Gloves wrote:I wonder what bum they will put in with Witter...

For someone like Witter who stays in shape and is never far from the gym, its not good enough
Yeah but you can't say Warren hasn't deleivered top paydays and big name fights, for his best boxers.DG. wrote:I agree re: the defences, not his fault about D-Hop.Old bones Ian wrote:Maybe, but surely he has some say in where his career is going, 2 defenses in 18 months so far.DG. wrote:

What are the alternatives for Witter? Warren?? - Fight Academy???
You see my point?
Exactly.. And remember, Warren did get Junior the Pinto fight (when Pinto was a rated name) on a Hatton undercard, only for Junior to pull out....Old bones Ian wrote:Yeah but you can't say Warren hasn't deleivered top paydays and big name fights, for his best boxers.DG. wrote:I agree re: the defences, not his fault about D-Hop.Old bones Ian wrote: Maybe, but surely he has some say in where his career is going, 2 defenses in 18 months so far.

Benn, Eubank, Bruno, Calzaghe, Hatton , Hamed have all earned great paydays when with Warren.
And he kept them busy, because if the boxer isn't earning money then neither is the promoter.

Eubank got around 150k a fight with Frank, despite the fact he went on Parkinson the wk before the Calzaghe fight on the Nazeem card and after going in Parkinson and speaking of his come come back suddently ppv sales increased rapidly, yet he got paid about 5% of what Nazeem was on and Frank would barely feature Eubank on the fight poster evenOld bones Ian wrote:Yeah but you can't say Warren hasn't deleivered top paydays and big name fights, for his best boxers.DG. wrote:I agree re: the defences, not his fault about D-Hop.Old bones Ian wrote: Maybe, but surely he has some say in where his career is going, 2 defenses in 18 months so far.

Yes in a tiny venue. Witter should have stayed with Warren because he would have fought more often and got bigger fights. If he fought Pinto he could have got the WBO and maybe gone on to face Cotto (who Pinto fought). If he got the WBO before Hatton fought Tyszu he may have even got his hands on Hatton back then.rhino222 wrote:hennessy has already delivered junior a fight in his hometown of bradford, something warren always declined to do !!

Hindsight is 50-50 but Hennessey doesn t have the muscle to make anything happen
