How Bad Was Duddy's Performance Last Night?

BBC was less than positive. Was it that bad?

In a word, yes. They looked like a couple of pub fighters in there. Duddy's lack of defence and head movement was absolutely shocking.

I watched the first 4 rounds through my fingers.

duddy showed his opponent no respect and nearly paid the price. he thought he could stop his opponent early because others had.

What's I found interesting is that Arum has now stated that he'll face Duddy "by the end of the year". Presumably we're all set for Pavlik v Trinidad now then.
Way to go John!

Thought his defence was one of the worst I have ever seen, Reminded me of a shitter version of Maklin when he thought Moore

very disappointing I'm afraid to say. seems like a nice fella Duddy and I picked him to beat Eastman which he did although even then I didn't think I was looking at a world class fighter. Howard would have had him a few years back despite the fact even as a younger guy he was prone to taking his foot of the gas.
anyone who gets their name up round New York on giant 100ft posters or whatever should really be able to defend themselves MUCH better than that not to mention know when it's time to change to a different tactic when you're getting repeatedly walloped.
IT JUST GOES TO SHOW what a fickle sport boxing is sometimes with all the hype that surrounds it.
Have to say mind you, not so much in Duddy's defence, more just as a general point that the Canadian guy was actually pretty handy, stocky, tough, had some good ring smarts and was very game.
Like Kevin Taylor on BNN I'd be hard pushed to haven given any of the first five rounds to Duddy as he could have been stopped in say, the first 4 of them - no idea how Jim Watt scored rounds 2 and 3 to Duddy whilst simultaneously and quite rightly picking him apart over his defence and gameplan (see lack thereof for both) - no wonder he ended up having him up by 6 rounds if that's how he was scoring it.
Also, as Kevin alludes to on BNN - pretty BENT if you ask me that Duddy seemingly never even got the cut looked at ONCE - even though he got told to retape the gloves TWICE for the tiniest bit of tape coming loose. Could it have been to distance Duddy from getting involved in a scrap and slow things down....? If anything the 30 second breathers would have benefitted Scmichet more, who was less fit than Duddy.

Really? Apparently one of the cuts was 3 inches FFS. Vladimir will be turning in his injured grave.

The cut was really bad, if he hadn't been a house fighter it would have been stopped without a doubt. Disgraceful that it wasn't even inspected.

Duddy Vs Pavlik could go the way Enzo Vs Gunn did.

Duddy fought a dangerous fight and could easily have lost. His defense was awful in the first few rounds. I give him no chance against Pavlik if he fights the same way and only a small chance if he works on his defense better. Absolutely disgusting that the ref didnt inspect the cut (is he a bookie as well as a ref?) Little chance IMO of the Pavlik fight in June for two reasons. 1 the cuts will take a good time to heal and will probably require surgery and 2 Duddys team will probably want him in two more fights before taking on Pavlik after this.

They should cash in on a Pavlik fight ASAP. Duddy will probably lose before getting his shot otherwise. He will get clobbered by Pavlik whether it happens next or in 2-3 fights time.

Even if Pavlik only gets through with 20% of the clean shots that got through last night, Duddy is going to sleep.

i believe that the promoters knew the main event wouldl be less entertaining, so they hinted to our boy Duddy to entertain the crowd..which he did but was over the damn top pleasing!
the mid and later rounds Duddy boxed better..

Pavlik-Duddy will probably be like a Middleweight Holmes-Cooney.
Bloody exciting first 5 rounds though!

Nobody's chin is imperviable to continued punishment, especially when your defence is as lax as Duddy's.
You could certainly make an arguement that he could ship a few long Pavlik right hands early and get stopped before he really got started.
I hope that last night's performance was more an aberation then a genuine reflection of his skill level, otherwise Duddy is going to come up badly short when he meets the division's elite.

Since the YBC fight there has been questions about Duddy especially his defense. SInce then he's has over a year, six fights and a new trainer and nothing has changed. He's 28 - when will be learn? And where is his power gone?

Thats the first time I've seen Duddy in action, from other comments I know he's not always that bad, but he was shocking on Saturday.
Duddys defence made Rocky look like Pernell Whittaker, I'm amazed he made it to the halfway mark the amount of punishment he was shipping.
Pavlik could take out Tito, Duddy and Lockett on the same night IMO

Pavlik may no have an opponent now. Maybe he fights Lockett? Can't see Pavlik fighting Tito because Tito can't get down to 160 and Pav wants to defend his titles.

watching that just made u realise how far backwards eastman has gone in the last few years.
back in 00, 01, he would have hammered duddy.

Pavlik VS Abraham would do me be nicely, the rest are formalities IMO

Are you sure? I haven't seen anything on this. The catch weight against RJJ was a compromise.

They said in commentary that Pavlik V Duddy was 99% made for June. but the cuts will probably see that put back or Pavlik looking elsewhere now.
I've seen a few of Duddy's fights & that was the worst performance I have seen. With Eastman he showed respect and boxed a lot more.
Against this guy he thought he could walk through him and put on a show, and took a ton of punishment in the first 4 rounds.
I thought he had done enough to get the verdict in the second half of the fight but the opponent hardly had a mark on him at the end while Duddy looked like he had beaten with a lump hammer.
It was also pointed out that they might as well got for a world title shot next up, because he is going to lose pretty soon and it might as well be for big money. Harsh but true.

Is john duddy still fighting 10 rounders?
