Wilfred Benitez' best fight performance

Watching fight Antonio Cervantes and Carlos Palomino were his top 2 greatest performances...What a master counterpuncher he was.
I saw the Cervantes fight and he gave Kid Pambele a BOXING LESSON...I don't know what the judge Jesus Celis saw giving the fight to Cervantes..Maybe he was BLIND. I did not see Cervantes win only but one round..The rest? It was all Benitez
Now Carlos Palomino, to me, was better skilled fighter than Cervantes and gave Benitez a BETTER FIGHT.
Palomino was very UNDERRATED, don't you guys think?

Benitez lacked power at light-welter and welter. Only when he moved up to light-middle did he develop some real snap in his work and retained his great boxing skills. I would say Mo Hope and Duran saw Benitez at his best. He crushed Mo and really hurt Duran, although Duran disguised it well.
You know, that Hearns win over Benitez is a big one.

Benitez gave Cervantes a boxing lesson...I would have love to see Benitez vs Pryor at 140
Benitez vs Duran at 140 or 147
or Benitez vs Hearns at 147 instead

To do what he did at such a young age in an always tough division is feat alone.
From the fights I have seen of his, I like they way he moves.

I thought Palomino beat him. He did the body work in that fight. Had the fight not been in PR, I don't think Benitez gets the decision. If I remember right it was split decision.
It is interesting though in that Duran gave Palomino a beating and boxing lesson, while Benitez gave a boxing lesson to Duran.

Yet I thought Palomino beat Benitez.

I have always preferred to watch the boxers do their handiwork moreso than the punchers, at least for the most part. Benitez is somebody I could watch work his magic all night.
Can't help feeling he was a victim of coming along during a talent-replete time, & would have dominated another era.

Yes, Carlos Palomino was a very good fighter, and underrated; Antonio Cervantes, too very good, but Wilfred BenÃtez was greatest

Benitez won a close decision over Harold Weston.
Cuevas knocked out Harold Weston and broke his jaw.

I thought Benitez's greatest win was against Cervantes to beat him in that manner at only 17 was truly amazing.

also,...benitez won a 10 rd dec over ranzany and cuevas ko'd pete in 2.
benitez was a very clever, awkward slick boxer.his absolute prime was probably 80-late 82.after that,he just wasnt as slick or conditioned it seemed.

I heard a lot about how he rarely trained properly for fights and that he only prepared for 4 weeks to fight Duran BUT that this was the longest time in prep for a fight since he was at 140.

And how did Benitez "train" for his fight with Leonard?
His own father wrote an article for RING magazine saying that Wilfred would not be in shape for that fight.
Benitez' regular cornermen refused to appear with him for the Leonard fight because he had started "training" less than 2 weeks before the fight.
Benitez was butted and had a huge cut opened on his forehead (no punch can cut you there)
and the clowns he had in his corner said nothing to the ref.
Can you imagine the wailing that would have come from Angelo Dundee if Leonard had been cut like that from a butt ?

The butt made a significant impact on the fight, but was accidental. I have the fight. Do you have the blinkers, Gran?

Poor Gran cannot produce a single post without inserting her foot in her mouth.
The butt impacted the fight. However, it was accidental. Just punch in, "I hate Ray Leonard" & save yourself the time. Who are you kidding, anyway? 8)

irene has never been butted. But what does that matter. irene is a boxing 'expert.'

Wrong again, Gran. Open mouth, insert foot. Gran's modus operandi, as a self-proclaimed, "boxing expert."
Poor Gran (who claims to have scored Ali-Frazier I for Ali) could use a headbutt

Getting back on point, how does everyone rate Benitez at 147? How good was he, in your opinion, at his best?

Benitez was the greatest.
Of course, I'm Puerto Rican
Benitez boxing ability/skills was probably on par with the best of boxing best, but his dedication was not there. If only he would've taken boxing more seriously probably he could've accomplished even more that what he did in my honest opinion.

granberry was laughed out of "the greatest thread ever" but what does that matter. Those guys don't know boxing like granberry does.

Who knows? All I can tell you is he called my scoring (in Frazier's favour), "clueless." I took that to mean he scored for the one & only ;)

granberry described the West Coast boxing thread as 'the best thread ever'; of course, that was before he started his lame act in there and they either ignored him or lampooned him. He tried his big man act next which also went down like a lead balloon. It's all there for anyone who wants to read it and have a good laugh at his ridiculous antics.
