Haye wants to clean up HW division!

WBC/WBA cruiserweight champion David Haye is planning to clean up the heavyweight division once he's finished with UK-rival Enzo Maccarinelli on March 8 at the 02 Arena in London.

Haye wants to add Macca's WBO title around his waist and then he plans to move to heavyweight. Haye, 27, tells The Guardian that he plans to take the toughest fights out there because he wants to retire by 30.

”My plan is to not box past 30,” he explained in an interview with The Guardian. 'That gives me three years to become heavyweight champion of the world. I'm not going to cut any corners, I'm not going to fight any bums, I'm just going to get straight out there and clean up that division. Since Lennox Lewis retired there's been no flagship heavyweight running the show, and I really do believe that's going to be me.”

Haye still has Macca to contend with, and he plans to end the fight with the first big punch that connects flush.

”It's rare in boxing that you get the two best in the division slugging it out toe-to-toe,” Haye sad. The last time two British world champions fought was Nigel Benn against Chris Eubank in 1993. That was huge, but this fight will be more explosive. It will come down to who lands the first clean bomb, and his style is tailor-made for me.

”I can't see it going past five rounds. The only way he will win is if he gets a chin transplant from Marvin Hagler!”

”I can't see it going past five rounds. The only way he will win is if he gets a chin transplant from Marvin Hagler!” :D

Boy, Haye seems really sure of himself. This is by no means a walkover, not by a long way! I reckon will prevail, but for the first time since the fight was announced, I now find myself thinking Haye is a little overconfident perhaps?

I just hope he does the business & then moves up to new & bigger challenges at HW. Countless others have said they will retire & not come back, but I reckon Haye is very serious when he states he will retire ahed thirty. I'm pretty sure Haye won't need boxing 7 will make a lot of money in other things when he's retired such as modelling, commentating on fights, etc.

I would love for David Haye to fulfil his dream. It would be great for British boxing.

As far as I am concerned the Haye is defending the Heavyweight Championship of the World against Enzo Maccarinelli on Saturday.

Who else lay claim to such a title? Klitshcko? Imbragimov? Chagaev? Maskaev? Toney? Peters? Do me a favour. Obese coke heads and roid ridden wrestlers need not apply.

World class Boxing stops at 200.

Haye is HW champion NOW.

lol. I understand your point, but regardless of how weak the Heavyweight division is, I don't think David Haye will walk all over the above names.

I think he would KO Wlad, who is nothing special and scared of his own shadow.

When faced with Haye's speed and explosiveness Wlad will likely have a panic attack.

When Haye beats Wlad it will show athletes that the best HW are the ones under 230lb. Thy shouldnt allow these freak shows to fight.

Wlad was terrible and so was Ibragimov.

Tyson v Holy III is a better fight than Wlad v Ibragimov. - That is how bad they are.

Wlad is pretty poor, but I think he would be able to beat Haye with the jab, Haye likes to fight from range throwing those long looping right hands which opponents never see coming. He wouldn't be able to do that against Wlad, who leans right back, and fights out of a very wide stance.

The Londoner has made no secret of the problems he has had at making the cruiserweight limit and Haye was unimpressed with heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko's recent victory over Sultan Ibragimov.

"Watching it, I was ashamed to be a boxer," said the 27-year-old Haye. "It was one of the worst shows of a boxing match I've ever seen in my life.

"If that's the best I've got to worry about then I might be heavyweight champion quicker than I think'
I have no doubt Haye will make a fine HW, but he must stay away from Wlad, as apart from landing a hail mary, he would get taken to school.

Steelhammer vs Hayemaker

I bet that would sell well though!

Talk of Haye beating Klitschko is a little premature, let's see him take one on the chin from a genuine Heavyweight first. Bombing out Bonin was impressive but he was vastly overrated. And some wins over some live bodies at Heavy would be a good start too.

I am still not convinced Haye has the chin for Heavyweight.

If Booth really wants to make Haye at least 17stone as a HW then he won't do well. Haye's already walking around with 230lb Inbetween fights so why bother purposely putting on more?

Speeds one of Haye's main strengths too.

I don't blame Haye for thinking that he could clean up the HW's.

I weigh 12st 5lbs (173); have never even out on a pair of boxing gloves in my life & I could clean up the HW division! :box: :TU:

Haye's said he will fight at about 16 and a half stone (230) at HW

Maybe, I was reading one of my boxing monthlys were they Interview Booth and Haye and Booth wants him at 17stone and they reckon on this video he's going to be putting on the weight too.

That would be a huge mistake. His big advantage would be hand and footspeed. Weighing that much would just slow him down. What is with these English trainers wanting their HWs to weigh as much as a house; look at Danny Williams and his "scientific" training regimen which produced a 270 lb beached whale vs Vitali.

Don't judge all British fighters/trainers on Danny Williams.....his training regimes are pretty unique hes a law unto himself when in camp. About 16 and a half stone (231) is about right for Haye at HW IMO.

Williams' trianing regimes are very unique. He just doesn't train much if at all then a week or two before a fight comes out in the press with some cock and bull story about some new training concept or old school wood chopping or something. Then comes in looking like a mammoth.

Haye got dropped heavily by Lolenga Mock and he thinks he can take a shot from the hardest puncher in boxing, Wladimir Klitschko?

Interesting.

Enzo is a good fighter, but he is nothing compared to what the Heavyweights will bring.
Povetkin, Ibragimov, Chagaev and of course Wlad would all be much tougher fights for Haye.

Unlike the majority, I thought Wlad was impressive the other night.
He did as he wanted with Sultan who was as good an amateur as Haye ever was.
Now Wlad is getting his confidence back, he will take some beating.
I can see him dominating for the next 5 years if he really wants it.

Wlad was poor mate. If he dominates for 5 years it means nothing the current division is the worst in History by some way. I dont even follow it

re haye and Ibragimov. Haye should be a heavy and Ibrag should be a cruiser - the latter is a bit too lardy and this is bad for a guy who likes to go round on the back foot and try to box in a nimble way.

I'm not, I just thought the correlation was interesting.

Haye would be completly fine weighing 215ish as he did with Bonin.

I can see Haye having good success at HW since the division is devoid of many knockout punchers beyond Wladimir and Peter.
However I don't see him beating Chagaev or Povetkin.

Beyond those 4, the division drops off very quickly. Sultan is now 33 and I think would be vulnerable to a quick banger like Haye. The likes of Tua, Rahman, Golota are old and past-it (although Golota would be a good test)
