Just had a livid text from a mate of mine who is a boxing nut.

He's had no Setanta picture for three days and after being fobbed off by customer services several times has now been told that 'Sky will have to re-position his dish'.

Anyone else experienced this?

I have cable so no such problems (touch wood).

Mine has been relatively OK - barring the two-bob quality of so many of Setanta's broadcasts featuring international fights, where absolutely anything is likely to happen. But I have had problems when watching something on Setanta 1 and taping something on Setanta 2 at the same time (or vice versa).

My gripe with setanta is that my sky+ box deosnt record the channel properly; there is always intermittent loss of sound and the picture losses frames.

I know its not the sky box as other channels record perfectly - only setanta is a problem.

Anyone else experience this?

I've got setanta and i've had no problems, so far

No probs here.

I get no picture at times, so turn off the box at the mains, remove the card, restart it and insert the card.

Works every time.

Hard to know whether problems are down to Sky or Setanta. Certainly Setanta aren't Sky's favourite channel due to Setanta trying to use the Sky platform for their own PPV broadcasts. Sometimes I wonder if it's Uncle Rupert getting nasty.

I know problems can manifest in many bizarre ways if the dish isn't spot on - like knocking out some channels while others are perfect.

I've generally had no problems... although sometimes their HBO feed is dodgy.

However, word of warning to all those getting it for this fight.... order Setanta early. They give a 4 hour warning (e.g. switch on could take 4 hours) but then also say "but more than likely will be up within 20 minutes".

It wasn't the case for me... and I missed the allegedly charity show as a result.

Iv had problems with Setanta through my Sky Digital box. The Setanta Channels keeps flickering. Setanta told me it was Skys issue, Sky told me its Setantas, so I just cancelled it.

Alot of people in Ireland have the same problems I understand. When the weather is bad, it gets even worse and cant get a signal at all.

Dont know whether its the dish allignment/old digibox or anything else. But Sky certainly dont care thats for sure.

Setanta's signal is quite weak compared to other channels so any weather problems or the dish moves slightly it causes loss of picture.

My recordings have failed the last couple of times i've set my V+ box for the early hours US shows.

Yeah, don't they piggyback their signal off of someone else's sattelite? They probably have low bandwidth and signal strength as a result.

I did have a problem when I cancelled Setanta and tried to record Setanta channels (they usually give you to the end of the month before switch off)

It just wouldn't record anything, bizarrely.

It sounds like Setanta are crap, but they're the best we've got. Not just from this topic, but from what I've heard overall.

Satanta are horrible. The amount of times I've tried ringing up and subscribing only to be passed round the whole office is a joke. Gave up every single time. Not worth the hassle. Shame, 'cos there's some great boxing on there from time to time.

Channel 5 for non PPV.

The reason why Setanta is sometimes choppy is because the Dish is designed to take 2 Sats which are .2 degree's apart. Sky Sports and the majority of channels that encrypt are on 28 east (sky) but Setanta is carried on 28.2 (Eutelsat). Bad weather will mess up 28.2 or if the Dish is not aligned properly interference will happen regularly.

So it is Sky's fault but there could be a slight bit of malice on there part when installing

There better no be any fcuking problems with Setanta come saturday/early saunday morning!

I, as I'm sure other have had, enough problems with Setanta in the past, with the channel just going off air come 3AM. It;s fcuking ridiculous. Setanta on Freeview claim they haven't got a license to broadcast after 3AM.

Well, I say just cough up the money to purchase the license required!

Serious, even if UFC wasn't on Setanta, I'd pay for Setanta gladly to see the fights they are showing.

F**K!! I've got same problem, no signal on Setanta...what a disaster. Panic stations got to find a pub showing it now....

Regarding the Setanta problem Ian mentioned, I've had similar problems.

I live in Devon and terrestrial TV reception where I live is crap - I can't get C5 and I can't get any sound on C4. When I bought my gaff a Sky dish was already there (one of the older slightly oval black 'mesh' types) so I used that.

I had Setanta for about a year then the picture became really 'blocky'. This wasn't happening on other channels so I presumed Setanta were to blame. Spoke to them 4 times and they kept on saying they'd re-send the signal or re-position the satellite.

Eventually it occured to me that they weren't going to send the space shuttle up to re-align the satellite and perhaps it wasn't Setanta's fault. I spoke to a local ariel fitter who told me that:

a) Setanta's broadcast frequency is right on the edge of what a small Sky dish can receive so the dish has to be exactly aligned with good reception.

b) Setanta can't actually do much if all your other Sky channels work OK, and to be honest I felt they were fobbing me off - they'd have been better off telling me my dish was crap.

c) Even Sky TV reception in Devon isn't good ans this sort of thing is common here (I also lose Sky when it rains heavily!). He suggested buying a bigger Sky dish, which I did, and £120 (including fitting!) later problem solved.

I have been trying for over a year to get Sky to fix my line so I can pick up Box Office, Setanta etc but to no avail.

So in desperation I signed up to Setanta by broadband and it's incredibly erratic. Saturday football at 17:15 is totally unwatchable as the picture rebuffers every 2 seconds or just goes completely blank.

Yet Ive had no problems with the am shows like Latin Fury or Taylor-Pavlik. Chagaev-Skelton was fine too.

I'll just pray it holds together for Saturday night.

Anyone else watch Setanta on the computer?
