Scott "Ding Ding" Belshaw fights tonight Sky 1 9-30

Belsahw tonight faces Daniel Peret a strong Russian with a 23 fight record (50/50).

Some will see this as the step up in class that many have asked for over the last few months. Hopefully tonight they get their answer.

James Gorman vs Andy Murray (The Rematch) for the Irish Light Welterweight title will take place in Dublins natuional stadium on 22nd March. this will be televised on RTE and Streamed via the net.

Newcomer Luke Wilton who has just turned pro after a promising Ama career spanning 7 years will make his pro debut against Istvan Ajtai on 29th March in Letterkenny, again these fight will be televised by RTE and availible via there interent stream.

Just a wee note, aint Brian Peters doing a great job in Ireland with the amount of shows he has delivered in the last few months. Hats off to him.

Anyway, my bet would have come up, not my prediction but my bet lol.

Scott Belshaw lost 59-58,

I have not seen the fight yet so am unable to comment too much. (I didn't travel to Nottingham due to family commitments)

No chance of getting in to the HW tourney as he is no longer unbeaten, nevermind the politics.

Have a read of MAloney's comments in Kevin's report over at BBN - he was quite scathing in his assessment and denounced Scott's passivity.

I hope he can get back on line after this disappointment and become a better fighter for it - sometimes a defeat can be the making of a fighter. I hope that is the case with regards to Belshaw.

Now the unbeaten tag is gone how about an Irish title fight with Rogan?

I read Franks comments on BBN and am still waitting to hear from the other coaches. Frank has a rematch setup against Peret so that might be Scotts next fight.

I have agree with your comments on losing a fight, I would agree that sometimes it take a fighter to be beaten to realise their own flaws and weakness and possibly a change in their training/coachin routines.

As for Belshaw and Rogan, I cant see it anytime soon as they seem to be on differnt paths. Rogan is now rumoured to be taking part in the HW Tourney, so I think we'll need to wait and see how well he does there before you could speculate on him and belshaw meeting in the ring.

My 2 cents....

Experience is everything in this sport. It's not the school yard. A fighter with potential needs to be brought along very carefully. Scott's still very young for the HW division. An immediate remach with a wrong opponent has the potential for disaster. Scott needs to 1) start fighting guys who aren't terribly much of a threat to build a somewhat real confidence; 2) Get with a strength and conditioing coach; 3) Attempt to live like a top grade pro athlete. This means eat right and avoid the Irish national sport.

HWs are on a different pay scale than the rest of the sport. Even contenders make big money. It's always worth the cost, pain and agony if you do it right.

Oh yea. Suggestion 4......Is the nickname "Ding Ding" an attempt to strike fear in an opponent's heart? Kinda like Mike "Ding Ding" Tyson would have done. Or Evander "Ding Ding" Holyfield? Or better yet, George "Ding Ding" Foreman? WAIT! WAIT! Muhammad "Ding Ding" Ali!!

Nickname wasn't created my the Team it was called out one night by an announcer / coach in a sound test and it stuck.

As for coach and traininer I agree with out to a point, but would like to Scott with a conditioning coach and a coach for speed accuracy and style raher than strength. He has natural strength and doesnt need to work too hard on it at this stage of his career. Continue with working on strenght but I dont think there is a need to concentrate on it too much.

Scott doesnt drink all that often, normally only after a fight really to relax and thats it, his diet is fairly clean and he does stick to a decent diet. (not slimming diet)

As for the fighting fighters that dont pose as much of a threat while he progresses along the learn curve I agree, but one little point here and not to critisic anyone (well too much) I was told Peret was a 2 fight novice, I'm not 100% who else was told this? possible bad matchmaking by someone.
