Pavlik v Lockett

According to LA Times, this is signed for June 7th.
A good warm up for Pavlik as there are similarities in build and style with Duddy and it takes care of a mandatory.
Great chance for Lockett, who I believe has as much, or more chance, than Duddy. Just wish Gary had a good 10 rounder behind him recently against good opp.

He can punch, so a KO is not impossible. Pavlik has been hurt and floored before, but always comeback to win.
Pavlik probably punches as hard , if not harder. And he is superior in every other department. But this is boxing and the underdog can win.

Lockett can punch, will be fit, strong and game.
But he marks up and can be predictable. Nice left hook.
For all the hype, he has as much as Duddy in my opinion, though lacks any depth to his 30-1 record.
I really needed a Howard Eastman or Joppy or some other ageing middleweight to add some experience to his record.
But Lockett can whack. He has a chance, does he hit harder than Miranda? Probably not but....

Its the fact that Lockett can punch that gives this a bit of interest, he's always in with a chance, a slim one, but its there.

Wow, it could be Pavlik vs Calzaghe in the near future (later this year?)!

Gary clearly has a punchers chance - considering Pavlik got dropped by Taylor in their first fight - unfortunately thats the only way I see Lockett winning by catching the champion very early - first 3 rounds or chance gone.

Pavlik's not hard to outbox though.

Jesus imagine if Lockett managed to stop him and become the Middleweight champ from absolutely nowhere. Can't see it myself but good luck to him.

Jesus, this is a tough fight. Lockett has been a pro for years and his first meaningful fight is against a World Class operator in Pavlik! Talk about timing.
Although when Rees got his chance against Maybe (and I'm not saying that Maybe is in Pavliks class) I said the same and Rees put in a career best performance!
Thats why I love boxing because everyone has a chance.

Lockett has plodded on and gone about his business fighting those who've been put in front of him. The chance is here, and he's just got to take it with both hands (literally!) He's a nice fella and I wish him absolutely all the best. This is what I've always liked about boxing - the chances can come out of nowhere for all sorts of people and give them a shot at greatness. This is Gary's big chance and I hope it goes well for him.

Well good luck to Lockett, he is going to need it, he isnt really world class,
he would probably peak at european level to be honest,
but one thing he does have is power in both hands, so he
definatley has a punchers chance, just dont see it happening.

Win or lose i think its great that our boxers are getting the shots against the best in the divisions, and what you would call the bigger titles.
Maybe we can see the last of the WBU title fights.

Agreed. Met Lockett after the Joe C vs. Kessler fight and he was happy to stand and chat, get his picture taken with the fans even thought it was at an ungodly hour.

Pavlik stuck his chin out and paid the price. He trying to show Taylor that the previous punch didn't hurt him. Bad move. When Pavlik got up he was really pissed off with himself for doing such a stupid thing. It's quite funny to watch.

Can't see Lockett beating Pavlik in ant scenario - yes Pavlik has been floored but he's always got back upto win. He's actually struck me a quite a tough fighter and considering his wiry build you'd be forgiven for thinking the opposite. But I hope Lockett gives a good account of himself and with Pavlik's team stating Pavlik is likely to move up soon a good performance from Lockett may open some doors to another title chance. He does punch hard but this is a guy who struggled with a rusty Ryan Rhodes so you have to put it in context. At the same time I'd be chuffed if he managed to pull of the win and I guess in boxing anything can happen. On a side note does anyone think supermiddle could be a really good division in the next few years with middles like Miranda, Pavlik and Taylor moving up? It could end up being a bit like welterweight where a once dry division is suddenly one of the best in boxing as fighters from the lowerweight classes enter it( Mayweather, Hatton, Cotto, Judah etc.).

People seem to be getting mixed up with levels again.
Saying Lockett 'can punch' is meaningless in regard to this fight.
I remember Lockett losing to that Belorussian journeyman.
IMO, Pavlik isn't great, but he has proven he can hang tough at the highest level, taking a succession of brutal flush shots from Jermain Taylor and coming back to KO him, as well as some impressive other world level wins. And whoever said that Lockett punches harder than Taylor mustn't understand the gulf in class between british level and world class.
Lockett has proved absolutely nothing.
Anyone who doesnt realize this is a routine easy win for Pavlik is a little confused.

Pavlik has a tear up and Is stronger In that way, thats why he's at this level, he's not hard to outbox.
I can't believe theres talk about his fighting Joe!

So you're assuming that Lockett will last 3 rounds? I don't. Pavlik by 2nd round KO, but a stoppage within the first minute is highly probable.
I'm not sure why you say Lockett has a puncher's chance - he doesn't have a single top 100 middleweight on his record, and his KO percentage is about 60%, which is average.
He is another Enzo Macc but with a better chin.

Lockett seems like a nice guy who is very realistic about his own ability. He's a level below Pavlik and will no doubt end up getting stopped, but it's a good pay day for him and it'll be an interesting fight.

Lockett may well be a massive puncher, but I don't see it. He appears to have difficulty in setting himself up to deliver the power shots, as his record suggests.
His best result are wins over Blundell, light middle Rhodes and a worn out Kelly - He is way out of his depth against Pavlik in my opinion.
I would be much more interested in seeing him against Elcock, who he has been down to fight on a number of occasions, and is nearer his level.

Come on Gary, bring another world champ to the Calzaghe stable.

This is a BAD, BAD fight. I am shocked that so many of you don't believe Lockett is COMPLETELY out of his depth.
In the early days as a well-regarded prospect there was light at the end of the tunnel - but perhaps maybe for a European/WBU style run.
As the man said earlier this is about levels. Locket is about 20 levels too low.
Another Haye-Macca for me in terms of the contrast.
