i was suggesting that "serial scrapper" conveys a negative also inappropriate picture of someone who is essentially, a boxer. But you could also ask how many of Peter's 291 fights could be classed as "scraps" - not all 291 of em I know that.

you're right it has nothing at all to do with Keith Jones I merely used him as an example of giving someone a negative label. It was a lazy phrase to use IMO. Since you asked. Mind you it is good that you stick up for your fellow BBN man's work and I think the work all of the team does is generally excellent and done for nought other than the love of the sport so I shouldn't pick it to bits considering.
On a side note though - and I know the article has come about from what MR Mole read in the paper.......but it's nothing more than a trainer saying he hasn't heard from his boxer, I would not be at all surprised to see Peter reach the 300 before 2009 - considering he would probably box at super middle knowing Peter if he's put on a few pounds, it's not like he'll have to boil much weight off like a Hatton for example.

Lets not write Peter of just yet lets wait until we hear it from the horse'smouth I'm sure if he is able he would like to get that 300 it's no less than he deserves he has been a true warrior of the ring during his near 20 year career saving many a promoters night & allways fighting to the best of his ability. He has given many an up & coming boxer a good learning bout .If this is the end of the line I say well fought Peter Buckley & good luck in the future.I will be a great shame if he is lost to the boxing world , after all who better to teach the art of boxing

Steve Murray and Adrian Chase were the hardest hitters(Chase was a lot bigger than me tho)
Steve Conway and Nelson Ide were the hardest to hit
Jason Cook was probably the best fighter, Colin Lynes was very good as well, as was Esham Pickering.
Charles Shepherd was physically the strongest but suprisingly light hitting.
Roy Rutherford was a very good pure boxer, sharp hitting as well

What about Earl? Sure, he has dipped a bit recently, but he had some career.

Can´t really comment about Earl, when I fought him, I took a big swing right at the start, which he sidestepped and clipped me coming forward, where I slipped on water in the corner, while I was protesting over the count he hit me again and the referee jumped in while I was still complaining, it only lasted about a minute!

Really interesting read that - fair play to you = a real boxer not like some of these keyboard warrior types who seem to gloat at the prospect of people losing/getting hurt..

Jason Cook supposed to be a bit of an animal and a piss head wasn't he?? heard a few stories about him over the years... Shame about that weight business being stripped of EBU title...

Jason is a good bloke as well, and I feel he underachieved, despite winning EBU and IBO titles, this is a fella who won the proper ABA´s as a 17 year old by 1st round knockout and also a silver medal in the Commonwealth games.
I like to feel I had some decent names on my record, and I think he was the best, had a bit of everything, in fact going the distance with him twice is probably my proudest achievent as a pro, much more than getting a win against someone of my own level

He is entitled to an opinion. And it is one I agree with. Pete Buckley has not put anything on the line in over 200 fights. He turns up, survives, collects his £1000-2000, then drives home. That is, unless, he realises he is not in against a proper prospect and starts to fancy the job.

He is a survivor. Dressing it up as anything else is bullshit. I have far more respect for fighters who are seen as journeymen, but actually try in EVERY fight. Take Alan Bosworth. A TRUE warrior, who put everything on the line, in EVERY fight.

You do not need to be a fighter to have an opinion fighting. As BP says, that is an absolute cliche.

What BP deserves stick for is his name.

I agree....having seen Buckley fight several times live its incredibly frustrating watching him do basically nothing on the way to yet another loss. He stopped trying to win anything years ago and everything about his style is simply about survival. Fair play to him he's helped promoters and matchmakers out by stepping in at late notice on occasions.....but at the end of the day he's been a professional punchbag and i personally see little honour in that.

I don't mean to be harsh but i think all fighters should enter the ring and at least attempt to win.

It's sad to read much of this thread. Peter Buckley is a great pro who saved many a show and brought on many a winner. EVERY generation of fan understands this.
