14TH MARCH 2008
Thaxton vs Romanov fight to be held at the home of Boxing.
Hennessy Sports in association with Golden Palace.com are proud to announce British Champion Jon Thaxton will be challenging Yuri Romanov, the current European Champion for his Title at York Hall, Bethnal Green on the 4th April 2008. The fight will also be broadcast live on Friday Fight Night at 9.30pm on SKY SPORTS ONE.
Tickets will be available from 15th March via Ticketmaster on 0870 060 1975 or
http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
Ringside seats (Reserved) are priced at £80 and unreserved seats £35.
Doors open 6pm
Boxing starts from 6.30pm

Any chance of an update on the Frotch situation? We have tickets, is it cancelled? Replacement? Sorry we have hotels and trains booked so need to know soon as we can cancel without charge!

Why is York Hall 'the home of boxing'
I don't think professional shows have been held that long at the York Hall or lets put it another way - not long enough to be called 'the home of boxing'
Billy Walker never fought there, Terry Spinks never fought there, Charlie Magri fought there once, Henry Cooper never fought there. Someone who obviously knows more about it than me is going to have to explain to me why the York Hall is so revered because I don't get it!

It's probably the oldest boxing venue in London that is still active.
It used to also be home to the NABC and ABA divisionals I believe.

Yeah your right, and coz its small 1200 tops you get such a great atmosphere.. I love fighting there

Good fight - I hope Jon Thaxton does not mess up - if he wins the fight - Thaxton v Khan for the European Title would be the logical step.

Thaxton's a grittly little fighter but I doubt he has the tools for Romanov. He can make it an exciting fight for sure. But he doesn't have the movement or the reach to befuddle Yuri on the outside. And he doesn't have the strength to push him back, which IMO is the other way to fight him. Good fight but I can't see where it's going to lead to for Thaxton. Apart from an "easy" win for the Lonsdale.
It looks like after he breaks Thaxton down, does Yuri. And then fight someone like Jose Miguel Cotto or Prawet Singwangcha as an elim type, to set up a challenge to Nate Campbell.
Romanov-Campbell sounds interesting. Bet Yuri won't have too many more UK dates. He must've had some really shit paydays in those tiny little sports halls and will want to find a cash in in America.
Sorry to say this but Thaxton will get busted up. He will go down swinging and ppl might call it a fight of the year type.

Winning a WBA Eliminator would only get someone a fight with Jose Alfaro(WBA 'regular' champion) and not Nate Campbell .
So depending on how ambitious Romanov is it makes more/less sense to go for the WBA title .

Probably won't be the same Romanov! This one hasn't been inactive which is what Maloney was banking on. Yuri's defended his European title twice.
Romanov still ruined Earl, even in that condition. Earl pushed him back; I don't think Thaxton can. When Thaxton comes forward he throws wide, winging shots. If Thaxton boxes on the move, it could be a repeat of Romanov-Vanzie.
Thanks for pointing out the WBA thing.
