o/t email problem

Hello,

Sorry to abuse the forum like this. I've developed an irritating email problem and I don't really know how to start to solve it. I wondered if anyone else had the same problem and if they were able to solve it.

I use Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and when I send an email I get an error message saying '553 From: address not verified see: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/o ... om-07.html' and a message saying 'after you verify the format of your recipient address McAfee recommends that you resend those messages from your email program'.

BT are my ISP and is my outgoing mail server and I have my own POP3 thing as my incoming mail server. If I look at my POP3 email in an internet browser I have no problems.

This has been happening intermittently since the middle of last week, and all the time today.

I had a look online, but can't find anything that makes any sense.

Any help/suggestions much appreciated!

Cheers, Dan

Is it for all e-mail recipients?

Are you using Outlook Express?

This is a BT problem.

B.T. have not told their customers that they have recently changed their settings so that you cannot send any mail through their SMTP server from anything other than a BT address, it is nothing to do with Yahoo notwithstanding the fact that you are getting a Yahoo error message.

However, B.T will deny this and tell you that they have not changed anything and the current settings have always been as they are now.

Cheers for your replies. I wondered if it may be a BT problem.

The problem doesn't work for all email recipients (I've discovered). Some emails I send work, but anything to hotmail fails and a few other ones fail. Oddly some things I send to people at work go through, but some other don't even if the domain is the same.

I'm using Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.

Bit annoying if BT have changed their settings. Why do this and reduce their flexibility. And surely there must be a way round this - surely just a case of finding the right SMTP server for BT - mail.btinternet.com.

If BT have changed something how come some emails go through and some don't?

I suggest you use gmail instead, it is a great piece of software and I have found myself using it exclusively now. Once you have an account you can configure it to receive from a pop3 account and also send using that account as the from address. I have done this for a bt account and know it works.

I believe you can also use gmail on mobiles and laptops too.

Cheers for the suggestions. I'll have a look at that gmail thing. In the mean time I've changed the outgoing SMTP server from 25 to 587 (if this helps anyone!) at the suggestion of the people I have my domain name (and hence email) from - they've made this 587 available as apparently my experience is an increasing problem.

Cheers for your help!

Hello, I have exactly the same problem using outlook express.
BT are my ISP and I use a different POP3 for entering emails.
It's happening all the time since yesyerday.
I change from 25 to 587 but the result is same.
Any advice ?
Thanks.
