This statement from Lockett worries me:

I recall that Jermain Taylor said pretty much the same thing before his first fight against Pavlik........ and one thing is for sure, Pavlik loves boxing and lives boxing

Nevertheless, good luck to Locket and I hope he creates a big upset.

I think he had become disillusioned with the game. He doesn't live for boxing, he seems a bright guy, has a family and will cope well without the sport when he chooses to retire.

I see that as a healthy thing, rather than packing on lots of weight, getting drunk all the time and considering a comeback at 40.

Just out of curosity did you ask about Sparring? I'd like to know the answer even if its via a PM or something.

On a side note.... As you rightly say CH - it was Team Pavlik who, understandably, "advised" Team Lockett not to fight on Saturday... cannot blame them, but I've just watched the Setanta version of Pacquaio vs Marquez II and according to Bunce - Lockett has this chance cause Duddy "stank the place out the other week"... WHAT.... why flat out lie. If that was stinking the place out... then no wonder Hagler vs Hearns never fought again.

I like Lockett's attitude - sounds like he's gonna give a real go of it. I hope he does himself justice in the fight and he's right that although Pavlik is very very good he does have his flaws.

Yes I asked about sparring and whether they'd be bringing anyone else in and Gary spoke of Enzo Macc and Cleverley....

We also chatted about Howard Eastman as a possible sparring partner but as he's in Guyana and a lazy git we moved no to the next topic!

Mark Hobson is a decent choice of sparring partner.

Absolutely, we only really chatted for a bit about Eastman and were just batting it back and forth.

He acknowledged Eastman was a good idea (so well done you :) but there's no way on God's earth he would get his arse down there and spar Lockett.

He can barely be arsed to put the effort in during his own fights.

Lockett is not slick enough to be in a position to fire back, cross armed defence is good to look for openings but Lockett can't carry that off, imo.

High held gloves is best - as you say, Pavlik does not target the body as much.


I think he should do what he usually does but take more care with the gloves, I think Locketts biggest problem is he swells up a lot!

I know I've just spoken to him and I know I'm Welsh but he sounded so focused, so driven and honest, that I'd fancy him to go over there and give Pavlik one hell of a tough night.

Who knows whether it will be enough, but I wish him well.

And if he pulls it off it'll be up there with Honeyghan/Curry in terms of achievement.

I think this is far from a walk in the park for Pavlik and if he, or his team think that then they are in for a rude awakening...

Hi Chris, I take your involved with Locket, good luck to him, I've seen him interviewed but never seen him fight but he seems like a decent guy. I'll be rooting for him against Pavlik who rubs me the wrong way. Gary need to relax, fight his own fight, focus on Pavliks weaknesses and his strengths and not let the step up in occasion make him make mistakes

What are Lockets plans to get past the jab and defend against it? The key to beating Pavlik is to not let him land his jab and take his jab away.
