Not particularly shocked, just mildly surprised. I always thought Lee was rather over-rated by some people who were jumping on his band wagon, yet I still thought he was a very talented prospect (but not a potential future legend, like some people were making him out to be). Vera is the kind of fighter who always puts in a brave performance and has got pure guts, he's more than capable of upsetting an under-prepared prospect and he's hardly a 'journeyman' himself.

I wouldn't be surprised if Campas beats Macklin tomorrow either (I hope he doesn't!) but to be fair that wouldn't be a huge upset.

Shocker! Lee champion by the end of the year? Has Manny just been exposed with more hyperbole? Really surprised but was always wondering why they were so keen to line up fights for the future when he had not got through the initial ones. They were maybe getting ahead of themselves a bit.

Lee-Duddy just became more of a possibility.

I was very big on Lee. But in the previous two fights he looked like an amateur. Relying on size, height, and not being able to cut the ring down. This was a concern as it happened twice but I thought he would iron out these faults. Anyway, I think middleweight looks a wee bit poor.

I like Pavlik and he's an exciting fighter. But for a unified/lineal champ he doesn't look great. He certainly doesn't have the class of guys like Haye, Hopkins, Calzaghe, Mayweather, Casamayor, Vazquez (these guys are all fellow "lineal" OR unified champs like Pavlik).

Poor Bob Arum. First Duddy, then Lee...Thank feck Abraham is possibly fighting on the undercard to pavlik-Lockett.

IMO this division is wide open for Darren Barker. Classy looking fighter. Get him a few more tough come forward types like Crampton to make sure he's sturdy enough. Perhaps bring in some tough North/Central Americans like Rubio, Zuniga. And get him some awkward movers to mnake sure he can cut off the ring ok.

Barker is vulnerable having been down before. But he has that lovely, polished pro look about him. Hopefully he wins British and EBU belts and gets near to some kind of world elim by the time he is about 27-8.

Bloody hell, bit of a shocker - poor kid, talk about reality check. First big TV exposure in the States too, his coming out party.

Yesterday Steward was saying Lee was ready for Pavlik right now...how could Manny get it so wrong? What did he miss?

Manny probably couldn't see through the heat haze of all the hot air he was spewing.

I think he knew he had a guy with the right face and with the power. Match him carefully, make your money and cash in. Take down Pavlik when he's weak at the weight. However that is all derailed.

It's not like Lee lost to a Carl Thompson like warrior as Haye did early on. This is a really bad loss that really tarnishes him.

Oh Manny Steward has been talking rubbish for years and years.

One of the most overrated coaches ever. Good community worker with the Kronk and that, but the kids he had fighting outta that gym would have been world champions had they been trained by their grandmothers.

Learn from it, dust yourself off and start again.

Good call on Macklin. He has become a very nice, clever boxer. After losing that amazing fight to Moore. That was a KO loss with no shame whatsoever to it. Lee's stoppage loss is far more worrying.

What is happening to Irsh boxing? First Dunne, then Lee becomes the big focus and he gets stopped. Duddy is an accident waiting to happen as well.


I think Darren Barker and Matt Macklin could have a pretty big future at 160 because there isn't anything amazing out there to stop them once they are ready. Lots of tough fringe contenders (Rubio, Zuniga, Griffin) to sharpen up against and fresh fighters like Quillin and Greene on the way up.

Pav will be getting beaten up at super middle before long. Abraham has serious workrate issues. Sturm seems to lack ambition. etc

I feel sorry for Andy Lee because he seems like a genuine, nice guy. For me, Manny Steward claiming Lee is the next MW champion & that he's ready for Pavlik, only hinders & puts more pressure on Andy when fight time comes around.

For me, one of the biggest problems is when a young, up & coming fighter shows promise, the press & people around him, immediately claim he be some superstar or the next big thing. I think it puts unrequired pressure on a guy's shoulders.

Lee has lost, but he can learn from it. Other fighters have, so why can't Andy? It's important that he doesn't dwell on the loss & tries to rectify his mistakes asap. I hope back in action soon & shows improvement.

I don't know what to make of the loss. Did Lee take the fight lightly?

in a way he does have apoint. Froch does have a curious style and Inkin is so well schooled. However Inkin is also one paced and chinny, while Froch has impressive power and can end a fight early or late. A lot of ppl aren't convinced by Froch's style and we will definitely see whether he can live at world class with it, soon.

I hope this doesn't ruin him. He's still a good fighter with a decent chance of making it. He definitely needs to learn some head movement and defense though. Looks like he just got complacent here and got beaten by an underrated fighter.

Just watched the video, kind of didn't do the stoppage justice because you would have to watch the entire 6-7 rounds.

This fight should be coming up on CH5 soon, as its one of the Friday night fights series. There's boxing on CH5 tonight at around 1 or 2 am.

Still time for Andy to come back, maybe he started to believe his own hype and after watching Vera get blasted by Codrington thought he would do the same.

I must say though that Andy looked alot stiffer in his last couple of fights, then when he started out in the pro's, he seemed more fluid then.
Maybe Steward was trying to turn him into a Hearns clone.
