Guys I have seen Chris Edwards a good few times but not seen Andy Bell, Find myself in the position of not really having an opinion on this fight because of that. I know many of you have seen plenty of the undercards around the country which due to my shift pattern I often miss.

Would appreciate any views on Bell in this one, how do the two compare, on paper it looks a good fight and again on paper only I would favour Edwards but having not seen Bell that could be a completely false view.

Appreciate anything you have on Bell as will be around next Friday and quite like to know what to expect

Chris Edwards makes the first defence of his British super-flyweight title in an all-Midlands affair with Andy Bell later this month. Venue, somewhat bizarrely, is the Metrodome in Barnsley.
Edwards won the title by closely outscoring Doncaster's previously unbeaten Jamie McDonnel in a genuinely bruising 12-rounder in December. He was the first man to win the newly-created title (8st 3lbs) and the first Stoke man to lift a Lonsdale Belt since since Tommy Harrison won the British bantamweight title in June 1922.
Make no mistake, he won't want to drop the belt after just three months.
The gritty, tough-looking Edwards has really pushed on (after a patchy early career) from the night he stopped Huddersfield flyweight star Dale Robinson in eight startling rounds in November 2006; consequently, the two met again and battled to a thrilling 12-round draw for British and Commonwealth flyweight titles. When Robinson retired, Edwards was the obvious candidate to carry the new domestic super-flyweight torch and edged out former amateur star McDonnel on a bill in Wigan that included four British title fights.
But Edwards-McDonnel was undoubtedly the best.
To Nottingham man Bell, who was stopped by said McDonnel in three rounds in December 2006 in Doncaster. Comparitively that speaks for itself, but Bell regrouped and has reeled off six wins, including a seven-round stoppage of Bradford's Robert Nelson for the English super-flyweight title and revenge over Grimsby's Wayne Bloy last time out in December to underline his obvious improvement. He's truly earned his shot.
The east Midlander is a 'big' super-flyweight (5ft 8ins), however, who has boxed a lot at bantamweight; Edwards looks far more comfortable at the weight and set a frenetic pace against McDonnel and maintained it. He's also more experienced, having been in with established names like Robinson, Lee Haskins, Levi Pattison and current European flyweight champ Andrea Sarritzu of Italy. Bell has never even done 12 rounds (though he's done 10 a couple of times).
Still, neither man is a banger, so a long, punishing affair looks on the cards and it could be tight. Bell has all the advantages in height and reach and is undoubtedly sharp-hitting enough to use them. But expect Edwards to survive the rough spots to emerge at the end.

The undercard has balloned, too- from something like 6 proposed bouts, the show now contains, acccording to boxrec, ELEVEN fights.

There is a English title fight, an area title fight and also a British Title eliminator (according to British boxing dot net )for Super-flyweight- good support for the main event.

I too can't figure out why they picked Barnsley!
I think tickets too are slightly higher than normal, at £35.

Bell looked good grinding down Nelson for the English title. He's got some decent skill and his youth may come into play with getting second winds, but Chris Edwards to retain i reckon. Then Edwards deserves a home defence.

Very interesting match on the undercard between two flashy, confident boxers, McDonnell-Haskins. The punch power is with Lee but I feel McDonnell can outwork and outclass Haskins with a stoppage.

Some results coming in- the central area fight was a 1 rounder.

Lee Haskins won the Super flyweight eliminator.

The English title fight- is it Wallace- has been scrapped, he just had a 6 rounder.

Andy Bell beat Edwards thanks to a strong start and a knock down in the third round, Edwards came back in the later stages of the fight but wasn't strong enough.

Also how Haskins got that decision is beyond me, McDonnell won in my eyes.

I raised an eyebrow when BN went for Bell but looks like they had it spot on.

Although I'm biased, I think McDonnell could beat either Edwards or Bell if either were to fight him again.

Bell really rose to the occasion and thoroughly deserved the win. Andy got off to great start and by the halfway stage Edwards had it all to do. Chris had more success in the later half but Bell showed good durability in his first 12 rounder.

Shame Sky only showed half of the McDonnell-Haskins fight because McDonnell looked the better boxer to me, but a good win for Lee and hopefully he could get a shot at Bell.

Cant remember mate...watched it with my gf, pointed out that they showed the good Mcdonnell rounds, as if they were trying to paint a picture, have no idea about the rest, though Haskins pisses me off, I was gutted

Why was you gutted like, did you want McDonnell to win?

Cos I hate Haskins fake Naz style, just pisses me off!!! lol..he maybe a nice kid, just hate that style!!

Haskins is a tough cookie with a heavy dig, but his lack of good basics will probably prevent him getting past British title level. He's a perfectly acceptable challenger for Bell.
