Best Domestic Division
Best Domestic Division
Watching the Setanta show from last night, when they highlighted the Welterweight division top 10, I was wondering what's the best division at the moment.
What does everyone think?
I can't decide between Lightweight and Welterweight.

I go for lightweight by far. Khan, Murray, Fewkes (who has a win over the Commonwealth welter champ Watson), old warhorse Thaxton, and some fighters will outgrow super feather Truscott, Mitchell, Arthur IMO.
Thaxton facing Romanov. Khan maybe getting the winner after his fancy WBO ranking fight and a poss opportunity vs one of the 2 36 yo world champs Casa or Campbell. Two unbeatens Murray/Fewkes fighting each other. It's not only talented but full of meaningful action. Look back a little bit and there was Katsidis-Earl, Earl-Romanov, great fights.

Light welter is a bit turgid. Olusegun has proved he's a horrible stylist. Witter can't get a fight. Hatton is too scrappy and the lauded stamina just isn't there anymore it seems. I like Lynes the best because he has a nice classical style including a lovely jab. But the best fights have been when Kotelnik comes over! Our token hard luck import.
As someone said on the current scene, Kotelnik-Lynes would be a good fight.

that was me. im a bit biased because Lynes is a local lad, but he is worth the shot IMOAutobarn wrote:Light welter is a bit turgid. Olusegun has proved he's a horrible stylist. he's become a great fighter to watch. i can see why ppl had valid excuses for him losing to Daws. has he had any other masterclasses, pre-Daws? I really enjoyed watching Tolpola, Morrison and Muttley fights. IMO Lynes could be Paul Cook's best fighter.MatthewS wrote:that was me. im a bit biased because Lynes is a local lad, but he is worth the shot IMOAutobarn wrote:Light welter is a bit turgid. I thought the signs were bad from the Dawes loss but hes proving to be a cut above. His win over Muttley was a pretty devastating coming out fight for me, I thought he was domestic class prior to that 1 but that was masterful boxingAutobarn wrote:he's become a great fighter to watch. i can see why ppl had valid excuses for him losing to Daws. has he had any other masterclasses, pre-Daws? i think he wins in bad old italy against a very creaking branco. problem being it will more than likely be a points type encounter.
i also think he breaks kotelnik up in a close one. colin is a better equipped fighter than rees ever is and gavin did pretty well against kot.
barry hearn has been very good and loyal to lynes thru his bad times in the ring. he should have fought under cookie earlier in his career. i thought he lost a lot of time treading water under graham mouton. he has blossomed with paul cook, though. deserves a world title shot.
